2019 i9 MacBook Pro Review - No Freezer Needed

I have an i9 2019 2.3ghz and it is the best machine I have ever used. I generally use it with the turbo off as it doesn't change anything on a daily basis, in some situations I turn on the turbo. Normally it is at 38 to 45 degrees at idle, and when used it does not exceed 50 degrees. At full then it stabilizes at around 85. If you deactivate the turbo, at full it stays around 70 to 80 degrees.

I know im very late but would this laptop still be good in 2023?

So, my 2019 MBP doesn’t seem to have Vega 20 graphics.
In fact why does my MBP have two GPUs?
I see that I use an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M for graphics and extended monitors. But why is there a Intel UHD graphics 630 GPU.
I don’t seem to ever use it, nothing is connected that I’m aware of, unless it handles the USB-C TB3 ports? I dunno hope you can help.
So was hoping for some insight on this next bit too. I can get my HTC Vive Cosmos Elite to run on my Mac. But wow it kills the battery! So got a Dell WD22TB4 docking station. I got it because of the 180 watt power supply, and the only dock with two DP ports (pair up in VR right?).
So, seems the VR USB interface doesn’t like being hooked up to the dock, only the laptop. Why?
Dock also came with a 180watt PS, that actually hooks up to an old 9100 Inspiron I needed a PS for. Kinda a score if yer into working antiques.

The LaCie offered at the Apple site while may have storage, they do not have the power supply the Dell dock has.
If you’re into gaming, this might be the right dock IF I can figure out the USB issues.

The first night I hooked up my VR, within two hours the battery was dead and my Macbook shut off.

Oh yea, got the Intel Mac because for $3999, actually got two computers for the price of one.
I got Windows 10 running for games (F1 2021, and 2022 for VR).

Also the AMD Adrenalin drivers won’t install on Windows, I think because the drivers turn up the heat, so I’m stuck with the AMD Pro drivers….

According to the majority of user reviews, the title of this video ought to have been "No Heater Needed" - as Apple did NOT fix the thermal issue(s), even with load to moderate work loads.

I bought the 2019 i9 base model when my early 2015 died. I noticed that Skype calls and photo editing cranks the temperature up to 80C and sustains it in the 75-65C range. This makes the laptop quite warm and uncomfortable to work on, not to mention it drains the battery. Is this normal?

"those assumptions were wrong" hey buddy, I'm not sure how much about electronics and safe sustainable conditions for electronics you know but 96 DEGREES IS NOT A GOOD PACKAGE TEMPERATURE. That laptop is going to literally degrade to the point of being a paperweight within 2-3 years AT MOST

Literally just picked up a 15" 2019 MBP 8-core i9, 32gigs ram and a 2TB SSD for £2300.. best of all it has 2 years Apple Care left and only a battery cycle count of 4, everything was still wrapped up brand new.

Hey just for future thought try and keep the 2018 on top and the 2019 stats on bottom. Kept getting confused on your bar graphs. 2019 on top here but on the bottom here. Just my opinion.

In 2019, macs are actually worth what they ask for, at least compared to Windows machines. Yes, you can get a monster of a gaming laptop for $1100. But it will weight a ton and have no battery life (like the one I have). But when you go and look at windows laptops which are light, fast, and have good battery life, they are pretty much the same price as their mac counterparts.

Another video says it's just Apple constraining the wattage for the CPU. Technically, there's no throttling but thermally constrained coz it never drops lower than the base clock speed but never goes beyond that either.

I must be unlucky. My brand new MBP with i9 processor is being returned. Had it tested today and it was found to be experiencing severe thermal throttling, even when not using Final Cut Pro. I ran a like for like test with my current 2012 MBP (rendering and exporting a 4K video) and the 2019 MBP was 22% slower. Paying a big premium for a product that is simply prevented from performing as it should, is totally unacceptable.

keyboard is now much better than previous generation.. and more quiet keys too. Just bought MBP 2019 i9 and it's really rocking so far :)

Will i9 have overheating problem if I don't use Vega 20? I want 512G but best buy only sells 512G with i9 and it's cheaper than i7 with 512G on the official website. But I don't want to spend more money to upgrade to Vega 20.

I see turbo boosts up to around 4.2/4.6.. Never recorded/seen the stated 4.9. However I do get sustained 3.2/3.9 during my compiler work loads. Compared to my 5930k (linux) compiling the same project the x99 system (at stock) still wins but not by much. All in all i'm pleased with the performance (apple delivered). A laptop keeping up with x99 (still a beastly platform) says a lot. YYMV as my use-case is in software-dev and video/graphics workloads are a lot more volatile in regards to performance and sustained load. Keyboard is still awful... I would compare the experience to "tapping a touch screen" vs calling it "typing". You can def feel the new membrane and surprising as it may sound, you lose any tactile feedback the first iteration of this awful typing platform provided.
