ONE: GOD HATES WHAT SEPERATES

PROVERBS 8:13 NKJV The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.

Tell a story about addiction and how it keeps your family away, and how we grow to hate addiction and drugs because it separates.

TWO: HOW I SEE GOD MATTERS

Understand God in His True Form

When we think about God just as He is, without thinking about ourselves, we see Him as all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, and completely good and just. These qualities make Him worth praising, worshipping and respecting.

But when prideful people think about God, they focus on how He affects their own desires versus seeing Him for who He really is. This makes prideful people angry and rebellious. Here are three points on how we see God through the lens of pride.

Clashing Desires: God's morality goes against what the prideful want. They see God's morality as stopping them from getting their way, which breeds anger. God hates Pride!
JOHN 3:19-20 ESV And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.

Moral Differences: God's perfection reveals the flaws in the prideful. Seeing how they’re sinful desires does not match that of God, it makes them feel separate and hostile. They don't want to change their ways to match God's standards because it will require a fundamental change which the prideful resist. God hates Pride!
ISAIAH 59:2 ESV but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

The Heart of Rebellion: rebellion is about wanting to do ones own will instead of God’s will. The prideful do not want to listen to anything outside of themselves because it means giving up their selfish desires. They see God's opposition to sin as a personal attack, the result is a distorted view of God, His goodness, glory, mercy and grace, all this becomes a source of hatred towards God because of a self-centered perspective, pride. God hates Pride!
PROVERBS 14:12 ESV There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

So, if prideful people could see God without thinking about themselves, they'd see that His character is truly good. But they hate Him because they see Him as opposing their selfish desires. This rebellion shows their struggle against a holy and just God who challenges their selfish ways.

THREE: BE WILLING TO LOOK THROUGH A DIFFERENT LENS

We must see Jesus for who He really is and know that His desire for our lives is good.

The humility required to accept God's grace is incompatible with pride. 1 PETER 5:5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Only by humbling ourselves can we receive the grace necessary for salvation and growth.

Humility leaves room to see outside of ourselves and opens us up to the reality that we know nothing, we have nothing and apart from Jesus we are destined to hell.

Without humility how can we ever surrender to a God who shed His blood so we can be clean.

When we are willing to see Jesus through the lens of humility, we begin to accept who He really is and what He really teaches. It’s declaring give me your mind Jesus, I desire your wisdom not mine, your divine instruction not mine. MATTHEW 11:29 ESV Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

When we begin to break the chains of pride, we want to align our lives with His and we are willing to forsake the lies the world teaches for the truth of God’s word. We begin to draw closer to Jesus and desiring to know Him as Savior, the need for our salvation and a clear understanding of His sacrifice.
