Vault tec plan for tha vaults was to test humanity for different type of crisis situations. For a long, i mean few generations log period of interstelar trip to another hospitable planet if the shit hit too hard in the fan on earth. But their plan to actually get folks into vaults turned out to be the shit that hit the fan.

I always need to come back to these videos to keep my lore in check on some of the great games. And I remember seeing that nuke for the first time then playing through that first day was amazing it’s never the same the first time, nothing is.

Not to far a reach aliens started the war. Ised vault tec to do experiments on people while not needing to bring them in. It would make sense for where data from experiments went

And would also explain some experiments ranging from what seems pointless to us, to seeing our capabilities when in the best regimins to build workers/soldiers

having gone back and played all the fallout games in order and reread all the added lore and info i could find i have come to the thinking that the USA and China or even vault-tec are to blame for starting the war i think each responded to a Zetan ship in orbit this was targeted by nukes but due to their tech they caused the missiles to return to earth and strike other places thus making each group think they were under attack by the other leading to total war and the end of the world

my head canon is sometimes leaning heavily toward the enclave., or more specifically the group that went on to become the enclave.
they figured better to rule in hell as it were and obviously knew of the aliens and had plans for solar expansion.

Untlil/unless Bethesda contradicts this theory, this is now my head-canon: Vault-Tec started the war to further their own ends/research.

What I realized trough this video is, that the whole lore's startin to get... relatable in someway. Well USA havin beef with china and a crazy madman with plans to colonize another planet and an institute workin on synthetic humans... Something that seemed pure Sci-Fi at it's core back when Fallout 1 and 2 came out has come out to be closer to reality than we actually would like it to be

Now I wonder.. if Starfield is linked with Fallout's lore in any way. If the goal was as "simple" as going to space for colonization.
Which would also confirm the Enclave's goal as being official part of the lore.

Maybe Starfield will have some kind of "easter egg" that will include an abandoned ship or broken space station with some vault tec connection

To be fair, at the start of the game. The Vault Tec rep tells you you're already cleared to go in the vault he just wants to get some verification info. Had you shown up without having met the rep, chances are you would have been let in regardless.
"Oh, it is. Believe you me. Now, you're already cleared for entrance, in the unforeseen event of *ahem*...total atomic annihilation."

It's almost like vault tec just sent reps to the people that didn't know they were allowed in the vaults, making sure they knew they were allowed in because it's nuke time and they need their test subjects.

No, the creators and writers have pretty much stated it's a mystery but was not probably not Vault Tec or aliens etc, it could have been a defence system gone haywire, a shadow government, or something else, it's highly implied that Vault Tec did not survive the war, in Fallout 3 to 4 for example, there are messages of hopelessness at no signal coming and so on. the culprit was most likely China as just prior to the attack, the lore states that unidentified objects, i.e ships and missiles were on the way to the USA from China's direction in 2077. China was losing the war 0f 2066-77 after all

I remember in NV there was a quest where you launch those ghouls to outer space in a rocket. remember? it was close to novac iirc, but I definitely remember getting the rocket running and them blasting off.

It wouldn't have made sense for Vault Tech to start the war. They barely had any vaults operational and some half complete. If they were to have started the war they would've wanted all their vaults up and running for experimental reasons. I think they had an ear in on the situation since they were fallout shelters but I don't think they dropped them. Vault rep doesn't know anything and you learn that from him in Goodneighbor. If he had no clue that the vaults were for twisted experiments then I have no reason to believe they would have told him they were jumpstarting Armageddon. His sales pitch was just that. Fear sells.

Ok so since I couldn't find a comment about this I'm gonna say. The logo the megaton nuke is NOT a vault tec logo. Rather than a logo which looks similar to the vault tec logo
