I will add that LEDs have always been current-driven loads, not voltage driven. (There's a difference!) So a good so-called "driver" is a well-designed CURRENT SOURCE. Current sources sport high-impedances, unlike voltage sources that have low source impedances. This doesn't really change anything the excellent moderator has taught, but might give a little insight into some DIYer that tried to improvise, and experienced frustration with strings of LEDs; i.e., putting numerous LEDs in series.

The heat of the main headlights is one reason why I still won't replace my halogen bulbs with a LED bulb.

However, for parking lights, brake lights, turn lights, they are all now LEDs. As are the interior lighting bulbs.

However that does not mean I don't want LED headlights; as long as the headlight assembly is designed for LED lighting, I'm good.

Edit: Also, my car's headlights assembly has a springy retainer clip that presses against the flange of a halogen lightbulb. The retainer clip swings in and out of the way. So heatsinks will just get in the way and the bulb won't be held as tightly as possible against the bulb hole in the headlights assembly.

Most led headlight bulbs that come with Built-in Fan stay away from those as to if you drive off-road or Dust what Happens is that the Dust or sand gets in the Fans and stops them from spinning, and then they overheat and burn out.

I bought two beam Philips LEDs for my 2013 ford focus and when I installed them they worked for about a second and then shut off. I talked to a person at Philips he said I must have touched the led which I didn’t but when installing them they did hit the casing. But not on the chip part.

As a senior consumer who currently needs to replace a LB driver side bulb, I found this to be a thorough explanation, however I kept having to back it up to catch the names of bulbs Chris seemed to approve. Maybe when showing a photo of the bulb, he could also show the name and manufacturer. Things moved too fast for me in this jam packed review.

No wonder my newer lights seem to have no focus at all. On top of having no focus and my light bouncing off reflective surfaces so high up my lights should never touch them. My brother-in- law did the replacement and assured me they’re angled properly. But they are very obviously not focused, they wash everything out and actually the ones I have don’t even seem bright enough to make up for the lack of focus, so they seem ridiculously dim, especially now that in less that a year one of them is already going out.

Is it alright to use LED or HID bulbs on an old housing meant for halogen? My thoughts on it is that the glass design won’t properly contain all that light energy and simply blast the light in all directions.

I actually wear my sunglasses when I drive at night because it's so bad. i keep putting them on and taking them off reason.

It's so irritating that the auto companies are creating all of these problems for us and calling it red tape when really they have so much power & can implement this immediately if they actually wanted to. More car wrecks equals more car sales. How about adaptive windshield tinting technology or just a divider that's high enough to block the lights on highways and freeways? Obviously that's not going to work everywhere but it could work in a lot of places.

LED = Light Emitting Diode
If it needs a fan or heatdink...it is not a real LED light, they do not produce heat .they last forever hence..50,000hrs LEDs have been around for decades ...todays stuff in stores are insanely bad design with cheap electronics attached that die faster then filament coils.. i checked out headlight revolution site . An the menu doesnt display properly..all messed up ..the web coding is not programmed correctly
I Have many LED lights in a box from the 80s veryyy bright and ZERO heat output... the good old days of genuine technology

I watched this video as well as another video on your channel. I was trying to find LED replacements for my 2016 Toyota rav4. Nothing on your website was clear this video that you put out didn't really help and I ended up going to O'Reilly Auto parts here in Maine and buying the Sylvania replacement bulbs for a 9012. It cost me $100 for two bulbs. They're guaranteed for 5 years. They have heat sinks and fans. They're plug-and-play. And it's from a company that has been making light bulbs since time out of mind. The lights work amazingly well. I drive to work in the dark and I drive home from work in the dark now and the difference in lighting is night and the day. The only thing that the internet helped me with was to make me more confused. So instead of going with a bunch of Chinese products on the internet that I've never heard of and probably that are made by companies that won't exist in 2 years I went with a company that has been around over a century and with a warranty that will actually mean something and it cost me half of what it would have online.

If you drive minor roads at speed at night, then up-grading the lights makes sense. But if you don't, or only drive main roads, then you're wasting your time with all this experimentation. Headlights only, gimme a break. They don't do much more than fill the two holes in the front of the car. Two fogs turned out at say 30 degrees for cornering, a spot and a driver for distance. Grime and mud will degrade performance, and there's a huge difference between snow and rain driving. But then you'll need relays, stalk switches you can use with your hands on the wheel and warning lights. And probably a better alternator.
One tip, avoid those all fashion, no function light covers. If you accidentally leave the auxiliaries on under the covers you'll burn out the lights.
