Yes, the Gold Shield from Sonic 3D Blast. I always thought Sonic Mania should have it, as is the main remake of the classic games, keeping the insta-shield on Sonic as the main ability instead of side content. It would be much more accurate to the franchise and, to be fair, also more nostalgic and a more logical decision.
I also think the same about Classic Sonic in Generations, it's just an unnecessary hole on the almost perfect pickup of moves and abilities from the classics, and would be so much better than just learning a move you could already do from the modern version of Sonic. Meh.. Also, imagine having every classic shield available!

Personally, nothing is ever going to beat SA1's homing attack. SA2 was a step down and Heroes/Shadow basically destroyed any instance of me wanting to use it due to how slow and goddamn weird it felt to use.

Frontiers has the worst homing attack in the Boost era in terms of doing simple Sonic things, there's literally too much recoil.

Classic Sonic in Generations has a homing attack perk that can be equipped.

I would put frontiers homing attack in the top 3 if sonic doesn't literally freeze after homing attack the enemy and then go up and pretend like he never froze when he touched his enemy or something like that

My issue with Frontiers is just that it doesn't fit in the Cyberspace, it feels like a combo starter without the combo, they should've tweaked it, made it faster and again more stylish for these levels

Frontiers would likely have such a better feeling homing attack if the game didn't halt for a second when homing attacking small enemies. It works for the big ones to sell the impact of destroying large healthbars, but for the small enemies, I just wanna chain a bunch of homing attacks together, but it slows the pace of the game down a lot.

I honestly prefer the unleashed homing attack over the generations one. I hate it when I'm 1cm away from landing on the ground and try to jump, but sonic just air dashes against the floor and loses all his speed instead. Air dash shouldn't work when you're so close to the ground- it should buffer a jump instead.

The ideal homing attack would be a combo of SA 1 SA2 and Heroes.

I honestly hate the term "homing attack", it just sounds way too generic in my opinion.

The SA2 bias in every video is so laughable. How do you criticize it for “feeling slower” than SA1s, yet Heroes is slower than SA2’s, but you don’t even bring it up. It’s the first game to give trick animations to the homing attack and does it the best, and you just ignore that. And half of the time when the homing attack “misses” is because of the enemy layout being much less forgiving compared to SA1, where the enemies are two inches away from each other in a homing attack chain. SA2 has a better and more natural arc animation when you do the homing attack without a target compared to SA1, yet you just rag on the jumpball. Every video you are very strange and nitpicky with SA2, it honestly baffles me

Idk if I'm unlucky, but the Heroes one is the worst for me because it loves to circle around the enemies for a few seconds before actually hitting them, sometimes not at all.

To me, Generations is the perfected Boost formula. Legit, if you play the unleashed stages with the generations boost gameplay, it’s honestly how it always should have been and makes those levels shine. Especially with the fact that your homing attack isn’t bound to the boost anymore. Big difference.

That being said, I personally can’t stand forces/frontiers homing attacks. The homing attack sticks to the enemy way too much after impact, it just takes momentum and speed away too much.
