Yes, it is very loud, but with ear muffs you are fine. I had an MRI scan a couple years ago. And it was actually pretty comfortable, they gave me warm blankets and ear buds.

Never worry about having an MRI. Nothing much happens except it makes lots of different sorts of noises. Just close your eyes and relax while the machine does its thing. The noises come from the electromagnets inside the machine being pulsed. Nothing at all to worry about.

If radiologists really believe gadolinium in the body is safe. Send out the disclaimer documents along with the full name of the contrast weeks prior to the procedure, so patients can make an informed decision at their leisure, as opposed to 5 mins before the procedure. which is absolutely ridiculous. Im guessing most radiologists know of chelated gadolinium risks and would not have it injected in them selves.

Had my very first MRI today and it was hell. I wasn't scared until I was inside. No helmet, no music no pillow under my legs. Was almost fully in there except from below my knees. Lasted 50 mins and I had to take in deep breaths and hold it for about 10 to 15 seconds, which made me gasp for air, at least 30+ times per instructions and release slowly. I almost panicked towards the end, specially bcuz I didn't hear them talk for a long time. The loud nosies made me feel I was hearing panick alarms and I was sweating and my whole body cracked when i finally got out. Plus I was diagnosed w endometriosis..

I had a panic attack and had to reschedule. I've got to do it twice....with and without contrast. I'm taking a sedative beforehand.

I had my brain mri today and panicked everytime they put me in. That cover for the face they call the antenna made me feel like I was suffocating. Thankfully getting blind folded and asking for oxygen helped. I couldn't wait until it was over.

The noises an MRI machine makes as it "takes photos" is the sound of various frequencies of alternating current flowing through the superconductors wrapped around the tube you lay in and causing the coils/control circuits to hum/whine. MRI machines generate up to 60,000x the magnetic field strength of the Earth. Quantum mechanics at work, baby!

As a epilepsy patient, the hospital i went to to get an MRI scan did not let me listen to music (This was Wake Forest Baptist Hospital) but in the end it was just the matter of the weird sounds that i imagined were music.

I knew it was going to be about half an hour. I wish he had counted me down. I tried as long as I could but finally punched out. He said I only had seven minutes left, so I said it would be okay. I SLOWLY--I mean half tempo, recited Bohemian Rhapsody in my head because I know the song is about that long. "Mama, just.....killed, a.......man." Even then it was still another minute or so. The next time I had one was after a stroke and I was so discombobulated it could have been 2 hours or 5 minutes, I just remember having the MRI. I've had an open MRI and that was totally cool and 100% preferred because the feeling of being in a coffin sucks, and breathing exercises didn't help.

I've had several MRI's over the years. Yesterday I had an open MRI of the brain. I deal with sinus and vertigo. 50 mins inside the machine. Best advice is to close your eyes and take deep relaxing breaths. I try to think of something I really enjoy doing. Occasionally, I peeked, and I didn't realize how close things were to me with that football helmet type gadget they place on you, but you do get thru it.
