PlayStation Portal — 1 Month Later! Honest Review...

I didn’t realize I was sitting on my toilet for nearly 2 hours when I got this thing. It’s worth the money. It has its cons but sometimes I just feel like laying down and turning off the bright TV.

Can we use this device independently? Or is it mandatory to have the ps5 Console?

i only get/buy disc or physcial for my ps5 so is the ps portal a good idea for me????

Has the recent update improved the hotspot lag? I got the Portal 2 days ago so I haven't been able to experience the pre-update experience. Seems pretty solid for playing Elden Ring, at least.

I think the portal should have more variable option for the connection, such as usb c that’s the very common selection as well , but sony 🤷‍♂️

My only reason to get it is for when my girl tells me to come lay down and i can play it in bed lol

3. Use an Ethernet cable on your PS5 for better connection

Drop the price to $150 and this thing would be a bargain, I'll just pick up an open box one up on ebay.

Tips for PS Portal:
1. Hardwire your PS5
2. Set your PS5 graphics to 1080p, turn off vrr, alm, 120 hz, etc.
3. Unplug the hdmi from your PS5.
Quality of stream will increase significantly.

You just have to play Demon’s Souls on this thing to realize how useless it is due to the random stutter. It’s unplayable unless you use it for something less demanding like 2D games.

For a start Dubai heavily sensor their Internet, do your assign through multiple firewalls that will influence your connectivity. Also, depending on your PS5 location, many possible Internet influences could cause packet loss and latency!

Then you are trusting a foreign WiFi in an Air BNB? Something you have no influence over and no idea if the WiFi is setup correctly.

I am not defending Sony here, but your testing is so flawed and completely not scientific in any way.

Questions… how is the battery life?… can you turn on/off your ps5 remotely (if im like a few miles away in the same city)… is the input lag bad when playing lets say 10 miles away on a similar isp but 2 totally different Wi-Fi connections?

I have a question, does this thing support USB-C disport alt...? Was thinking about getting one of these and using my Xreal Air 2 Pro glasses with it. I know it will work with my Steam Deck and Asus ROG ally and I can remote play PS5 from those. Just curious if you could use the glasses with this Portal...?

Way too expensive for what is essentially just a PS controller with a small screen and crappy speakers. I'm not keen on playing on a small screen when I have my nice 4k 65" TV either, but I could do it for the convenience if it were a bit cheaper. Maybe somewhere closer to $120.

Whoever buys this is just looking to waste money at this point, lmao. The fact that a handheld - a device that is meant to be portable, is cloud based & cloud based only, in 2024, might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my entire life. Portable handhelds used to promote on the go gaming. Game while your at work, on a road trip, plane, etc.. WHEREVER. Handhelds that can run natively like the SteamDeck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, are so much better & should be the way of the future.

Not to say cloud gaming doesn't have its place. For home consoles it's perfect. But for handhelds?? Wow. Half of the people in here are like, "I wanted to lay in bed & play". Bro you're THAT lazy that you can't even be bothered to sit up in bed. This is how lazy our society has gotten. Willing to spend hundreds of dollars just so they don't have to sit up. Absurd.

Do yourself a favor and wire in the PS5 and get a dedicated wireless access point and dont rely on the crap wifi module in a router.

I've been hating on the Portal since launch but I bought one for my son. I really like it, so much that I play it even when the TV is free. I think when I get Project Eve I will want to see it in its full graphical glory on my oled HDR TV, but I'm playing Samurai Maiden at the moment and this game actually looks better on the smaller Portal display. I do have difficulty rarely with the connection even though me, my ps5, and router are all in the same room and my ps5 is connected via ethernet cable

The problem with playing away from home will be your broadband upload speed, is your broadband Synchronous or Asynchronous?
