My mother has spent over 2000 hours on Duolingo because of the constant threat of losing the streak and leaderboard ranking. She already knows how to answer every question quickly and her Spanish skills are not improving any further, but there is always the threat of losing a heart for simple mistakes when trying to go fast. She is always thinking about Duolingo in the back of her mind every single day. After losing the streak, she learned the hard way that the streak, leaderboard rankings, and point system are just game mechanics that use fear as motivation. Now her life is back to normal, but she could have spent those hours on something more meaningful like taking a class to learn more advanced Spanish or traveling Spain, Mexico, or another Spanish speaking country.

So if i want to get rid of my family i just need to-
