Very solid interview, good content. However, the CG situation as Mr. Belzer explained, doesn't match what you guys or Gabe stated. Gabe, as well as the both of you, stated that OU was willing to match the offer. Mr. Belzer stated that they were willing to come close but did not match the offer. Mr. Belzer also stated that OU paid out around 4 million in 2023 to the football team, and that OUs record of 10-3 with a final playoff ranking of 12 was a good ROI. I think most OU fans would disagree. Four million a year for 10 or so wins and zero championships will not cut it with the fan base, especially if teams like Missouri, Old Miss, and Tennessee have real success with what they spent within the NIL.

All you need to know is that OU spent $4M last year and the average SEC team spent $8-10M. Most OU fans - and yes, I am one as OU has been my favorite team since 1971 - have no idea what is coming if we are being outspent at these levels. NIL is the highest anabolic steroid version of the recruiting landscape that fueled “facility wars” years ago. I have lived in SEC country all my life; those who haven’t really don’t have an apprecIation for the intensity. I kept hearing a theme of value shopping and ROI throughput the interview.
Just a fair reminder. As a paraphrase of an aTM administrator once said - football in the SEC is just like a religion, except in church you don’t find a 100% of the people who believe.

I HATE NIL and the Transfer Portal. It’s ruining College Football. Greed is going to kill the Golden Goose. It went from let’s help a poor kid be able to go out on a date to a select few demanding 7 figures before doing ANYTHING on a college football field. I support how OU gives ALL players a share and wish it could be division 1 wide. I want kids to go to great schools that will help them the most for their lifetime not just whichever school pays them the most that year. It’s just all wrong now…….

Ответить

Problem is, we can't actually get an equal player out of the portal for that amount. Because there aren't many in the portal, and we aren't getting many of them.

I don’t watch professional sports. When I perceive college sports are like the pro sports I don’t watch, not only is the collective not going to get my dollars, the dollars I pay for season tickets and the dollars I give to the Sooners Club that helps get those tickets, will be lost also. It is what it is.

REGULATION. The NFL has a salary cap. College (whether you call it NCAA, FBS, SEC+B1G, et cetera) will have to have the same. If a system basically the same as the pros is not used, the whole house of cards will not just collapse, it will implode, crater; - the greed and corruption and all other kinds of hell will ensue to the point that only 3 or 4, maybe a couple more schools will be fielding football teams and the only audience they have will be their own alumni and the majority of them will not feel the same as before, will not enjoy the schedule of handful of games that will result from just a few schools playing and lose interest and quit watching, effectively killing the sport at the collegiate level, and it will be near impossible, if not actually impossible to resurrect it.

I will say that his main goal is to pitch NIL and make it the most successful but what he does seem to forget is if things do change there is a big difference between NIL being funded by money being given to people and state institutions paying athletes million through U.S tax dollars I do have a feeling that won’t go over well and the only way it can be successful is if it is continued to be privately funded bc I love CFB but the last thing I want my state Tax dollar going to is to an athlete I just don’t think it will come to that.

Ответить
@ryanmeyer3668

Also I will say other teams better hope NIL doesn’t go in house bc then the gap between OU and them greatly diminishes OU is a top 5 most valuable program in the entire country!

This is very good information, thank you for doing this. Very enlightening guys. Best update of OU current NIL ability. I've had a very bad taste in my mouth on NIL and still torn on the subject. I know how hard our athletes work to get where they are. They should get compensated, based on possible personal risk, injury could end their football career in college. Based on how much money is spent on athletics, they should get paid, because football has become a job. The coaches get paid very well, why shouldn't players be compensated for all their hard work! Now they just need to get the NIL program under control and enforce the rules. NIL needs to be regulated. Thanks, Sooner-Bo
