What do you mean DIO was threatening in Part 3? Even Hol Horse appeared more and had more presence than him. The only good part about that DIO is the memes. Take that out, and he is even more bland than Boingo. Part 1 Dio is way better.

The character is very well written. He can't repress his urge to kill, causing it to never get what he desperately wants. In regards to the ending; I wish he wasn't sent to his personal hell. If you have the power to transport a soul to a different reality, why not cure the man? It would have been a win-win.

Kira was very particular with his habits and lifestyles only choosing to stay in the same cycle, after this was done for so long this became an addiction, the addiction and other possible mental problems were the reasons he had kept the hands of his victims and he remembered to dispose of them when necessary. When Kira went through the identity swap he was forced out of these habits and had to lay low to avoid mixing with the other stand users, through means of protecting himself he formed a bond with Kosaku’s wife and son though he tried to pass this off as he was in denial over his change. When Kira found the stray cat not only did he show his love for his “wife” but he also went back on destroying the cat, this is because of Kira’s liking to cats, Kira’s trouble against the cat and Kira knowing the benefits outweighed this. When Kira found out Hayato had been spying on him he decided to get revenge via bites the dust, he could finally feel some of his old habits again, think of this as a relapse, Kira’s demise in the end wasn’t caused by ego due to underestimating hayato, it was caused by him letting his guard down due to the relaxation brought by finally getting to live the way he used to, reforming the straight line that is his life.

In a way he did get his queit life in the end.
After Kira got grabbed by the hands he woke up as a ghost without memories of his previous life.
Now as a ghost he does the dirty work of monk and gets paid for it.
So Kira now as a ghost is unable to be noticed and/or seen by non-spiritual people and has a consitant* income, in other words he got the quiet life he wanted.

Overall he want a "quiet life". But he get's bored of it and develops little hand hunts. He needs excitement. To be known, to be superior. But the only way he can have a quiet life and be known/show superiority. Is to be known and show superiority only to his victims. Giving them everything they need to know about him is fun and dangerous, Taking it all away from them shows superiority. (Also his hand fetish thrives.)

Eventually this also becomes somewhat boring to him and so he becomes less cautious, gets caught and has to adopt a new life. And it's fun and exiting to him as well as quiet at the same time. Until it still isn't enough. He has the quiet exiting life he wants. But he can't show his superiority and that means he has to kill again.. At least... Until he get's bites the dust. In which he can simply show himself to Hayato without consequence.

It is at this moment that he no longer needs to kill. He has it all. And he dies for it. He ends up getting more excitement than he wanted at the end and all because he actually wanted more than just a quiet life.
