99% of the time, death threats on the internet are a lie used to play the victim, "I'm being harassed, poor me!, the other 1% are real death threats but without a real intent to make them a reality, like a teenager who thought it was going to be the coolest thing ever.

It's so easy to use "I'm getting death threats on the internet" as a shield against criticism.

When I first encountered this mod, it was being represented as an improved way to play it, focusing on the improved graphics. Now I don't know if this was the doing of the developer or if it was the places that were covering it or if the name itself just gave that impression. I think it's a mix of those.

People at the time seemed open to the idea of a graphical improvement mod but there was a mixed reaction towards the art direction and fans really, really did not like Alyx being sexualized. Which I mean I get to an extent. Why add sex to a game that does just fine without it? But what bothered me was the weird sense of ownership over a character's sexuality. It's like they think the character of Alyx must never be interested in sex. It's like the overly protective way dads sometimes get over their daughters.

You know, on second thought, they say the art reflects the artist. You do gotta wonder...like, if it were just a fetish mod or something, okay, fine, he's a sweat goblin. But the graffiti makes him seem like an incel too...

The NSFW bits are straight up disturbing. I've seen literal, self-identified sex mods that were more tasteful.
If you're going to make a NSFW mod, the very least you can do is let it swing both ways.

Having some important male characters with 0 new outfits when Alyx has 55 is nuts, especially when 2/3rds of those have ridiculous giggle physics, visible nipple through clothes and ludicrous amounts of skin shown all at once. Not to mention the p*ssy rigged to drip on some of them.

One could argue the man who made it is straight and made it for himself, but the "all women are wh*res" graffiti really is not reassuring about the guy's creative intent/mental state.

Glad you could express that the guy doesn't deserve death threats without brushing these elements under the rug.
Specifically mentioning therapy. People like that need help, not harassment and exclusion. They could become a danger to themselves and others otherwise.

the weird hypersexualization of any and all female characters, the porn, the dildo and the weirdly agressive graffiti paints a picture of someone who's wildly misogynistic and see women as nothing but sex objects, and this makes the mod incredibly uncomfortable to play through, and very much leaves a more sour taste than what the music, map changes, visual effects and visual upgrades make up for.
it just feels extremely icky to play this.

Unpopular opinion I quite liked it, and all that additional stuff is optional, just turn off the bits you don't want. I just wished it worked with the VR mod

credit where credit is due, but i think the sexualization is something that shouldn't be downplayed. it's easy to say it's not big deal when you're a man in a male-dominated space, but think about how unwelcoming this sort of thing is for women. if you want your community to be an inclusive and accepting place, you HAVE to denounce this mod's attitude towards women.

Best Mod Ever

Imo, there are some things this made does well but it is ultimately overshadowed by the straight up sexism that this mod is chock full of. Crass graffiti is fine, but graffiti about how "women are whores" and "call me to fuck" are not only extremely out of place, but also just gross. I think the mod creator deserves to be called out for it, though death threats are going way too far.

I like playing this mod with MMOD sometimes, also holy shit I had no idea fakefactory was that old I definitely assumed he was just a horny19 year old when he made this

i dont believe the mod was made as a parody of loud, blockbuster movies, like the description would suggest. It went completely off the rails, disregarding original design and changing the whole atmosphere of the areas.

Honestly; out of everything, the graffiti isn't that weird. Especially in a broken and enslaved world (one where, if I recall correctly reproductive rights are not a given), people would definitely be drawing things like that.

Don't know if i'm just old and jaded, but were people actually assmad over sexy Alyx or modeled internal organs? It's a video game. Touch grass. Who cares? This mod looks ridiculous and awesome. The more explicit the better imho. its all for fun, and was optional .

Not trying to play internet police, but I don’t feel that a 13yo kid should get a pass with making death threats. The same way that someone shouldn’t be free of consequence or legal action when they decide to swat someone “for fun” and it gets someone killed. Joking is one thing, but if your way of joking is to traumatize someone by sending death threats, and especially If you allow a kid to go unpunished for that, they’ll go through life thinking it’s okay. Some of this shit is sociopathic behavior. Don’t give these people the age card and downplay the issue. No one should have their life threatened because of a mod.

I remember this mod. I even diwnloaded it once upon a time. Though the version i got did not have all the... content discussed here. Alyx had maybe a dozen different models at the time, and they were certaiblt not as "anatomically detailed" as described here. I also dont recall Alyx' bedroom or any "toys" either. Though I do remember the gratuitous giggle physics.

This was before even Lost Coast came out, much less Episode One, so i would imagine that there have been some additions since then.

What a dumb thing for people to get pissy about, its a mod. Whole thing with mods is their optional. If you dont like it dont download or use it and just ignore it for whoever else out there might enjoy it. Mods add sexualization into games that aren't sexual all the time, look at skyrim it became the biggest porn game thanks to mods haha.

I always secretly loved this mod, I had a few laughs when I first played it, it's a pretty funky mod to play around for an hour or two, the creator may be insane but god this mod is a damn wall of shitpost

As an outsider of this community, holy hell what's wrong with people, it's just a mod and none of the "egregious" things are actually an issue.
But i only care about the graffitis, i've seen far more graphic graffitis irl so i don't see an issue with it, and he doesn't deserve the hate.
