this movie is totally overrated . . . Carpenter, King, ElmStreetMaster are x100 better. LoL. Scatman Crothers was only made to appear a 'hero' in this, when in reality, he was a racist as he calls it "azzhole" . he needed to be replaced with an american =D

Jack is the Devil card in the last shot, and there is also the feather and heart of Egyptian Maat, the judgement day. There is also the trumpet. See how he holds one hand up and one day, and the women behind have the feather and heart on their clothes.

Halloran does say that the ghosts can't hurt anyone, but in the book it is made clear that the power of Danny's "shine" gives them more power than they usually have.

The Grady twins are not twins. They're sisters who dress alike. When the manager of the hotel is telling Jack about the murders, he mentions the girls are 8 and 10.

I love when Dick gets to Denver and calls Larry for the snowcat. He doesn’t have time to get into explaining the shining and why he’s really there. So he boils it all down to “they turned out to be a bunch of unreliable assholes” which I always found funny. But after some thought. He was 100% right. Did Jack do even one job related thing while at the over look? No! Wendy did it all. All Jack did was break shit. The CB radio, the snow cat, he destroyed a couple of doors. He really was a terrible caretaker and a unreliable asshole lol

Those twins arent the Grady twins. There was no Grady twins. They didn’t mention the girls being twins in the book or the movie. I believe they had a 2 year age gap, and we never see any of the real Grady’s mentioned in the beginning

One thing I've never found anybody acknowledging is that at the beginning, Wendy says the incident with Jack and Danny happened 5 months ago. Then, later on, Jack says it was 3 years ago when he's at the bar. Maybe I'm remembering this wrong, but that feels significant

"It's just the story of one man's family quietly going insane together." - Stanley Kubrick
Kubrick's film is NOT King's novel.
There are no ghosts.
Each person is delusional: no two people witness anything "supernatural" at any given time. We, the audience, are only seeing what each clearly identified person is "seeing".
Wendy and Danny are the only ones disturbed by their visions. For Jack, the delusions are merely part of his fantasy of being one of the "best people", important, loved, and successful.
There is no "reincarnation"; the photo at the end of Jack is merely an image of what he fantasized about every time he saw it; he is front and center of what he most wnats to be part of.

Room was changed to 237 because in numerology it's 2×3×7=42. And 42 is shown 3 times which 42 equals to 4+2=6 and so 42 three times is 666.

This movie is a rare case of a book being perfected by a film director. The book is great, but Kubrick somehow captures the true horror of the story of a haunted hotel. I also think excluding the hedge animals and switching the mallet to an axe were for the best, the maze and axe are far more frightening imo.

This will seem rough and simplistic, but I believe it to be true.

The audience watching the 'haunting' of wife and child feel a ready empathy.
To counterbalance the audience involvement, Kubrick implied the audience was a part of fracturing of Jack's character's splintering personality, as mad as he, and enjoying the freedom of his psychosis. Enjoying the actor... We were with him for his ride.
