Well I just got the echo show 5 from the recent prime day for $40 and it included one of those hue smart lightbulbs...my only gripes is the screen is a bit small, but if you have it on a nightstand I guess it's convenient...

Also, because of the way it sits (without a stand) pointing up if you use it as a security cam to check your home while you're away the view is mostly towards the ceiling...granted I have it on my kitchen counter but still. I guess that's why they sell you the stand for it so you can have those adjustments...other than that I'm liking it so far...

by the way, you mentioned that Alexa doesn't do follow-up questions or doesn't do them well. I don't know if they did an update since this video but you can indeed do follow-up questions without having to say "Alexa"...

And because I have a firestick it pairs up quite nicely since I can have it send videos to my tv and such. I can even turn off my tv just by asking Alexa... something I couldn't do before.

the only thing I'm trying to figure out now is that in the past few days I use to get various tips and suggestions as a screen saver and now I tend to see 1 or 2 blank screens where information used to be. Not sure why that is...if I get another it will be the echo show 8 because it's bigger.

I just tried to have the Apple ecosystem but everything is so expensive and there’s not alot of compatibility in the market, I returned my Apple home pod and went back to Alexa today

Google assistant feels like shes been nerfed big time and Alexa not so much so I was considering switching but i might hold off a while longer

Unless you have an iPhone, which suckkkkks! I HATE SIRI! Why would anyone that has had android go to Apple! You need to make a video on how to jail brake Apple so I can use ok Google on my iPhone!!!! This space seems like it’s ripe for an unknown to come out of nowhere and take the market.

It doesn’t seem like these are given enough attention by the big guys. HomeOS will be real I’d bet.

What about an open source option? Something not tied to a mega corporation or big media that can work offline.

Google has llm integration available through Bard or palm via their cloud Dev platform. Unless Apple magically invents an LLM within the next half year then Siri won't be sticking around.
The fact that Amazon stuck around at all just goes to show how pathetically under educated most people are.

Do people realize that these devices are always listening to you. I pity the fool who voices out loud, how he would like to deal with that guy that lives in the White House. Nothing is as wonderful as having after 30 minutes, or less....

None of these companies sell the data, so this was a bit of a gaff, but it's really only going to trip up the people who mistakenly think these devices are spying on them to begin with.

I know that Apple is not able to learn really from the user, because the HomePods are not operating on a Cloud but that is for me the biggest selling point. They can operate localy in your home network and because of that, there es very good latency and it can operate without an internet connection to a server if the Connection from your router breaks down.

Did I miss something? I'm fairly sure you can program routines for Siri in the Shortcuts app (though you technically have to do it with an iphone or ipad).

Does any of them support conditional routines, like "Turn on the lights after the sunset only if I'm home" and "Turn on the lights when I'm back if it's already after the sunset"?

I have made my home smart using the amazon echosystem purely. The drop in feature is amazing. I recently bought a new Echo Pop and now it synchs with my dot to play music from both speakers. Its cheap, easy to use and fun

Why can't google assistant get on board with siri and when phone is locked it answers you then turns the screen off and there's no window open when you unlock the phone later. I agree google is better but I won't go back to Android til it's in line with these siri qualities.
