BTW, North Carolina's corn fields are a LOT bigger than Maryland's, especially east of I-95. Send some folks our way to make these food forests and maybe have a place for homeless people to live in the process.

If you have a river or creek which flows toward recreational areas without flooding things you don't want flooded, I'd suggest asking USFG for beaver to take control of creating the best wetland possible.

Creeping Phlox will sandy, dusty dirt into black, rich soil if you plant enough of it. Good for yards where even grass hesitates.

Pine needles don't provide acidity to the soil- it's an old myth. Sprinkle some pure sulfur 2-3 times a year and cover with mulch, the biodiversity of the soil will turn it into nice acidic soil while 2 feet away you can grow alkanity loving plant.

Awesome how your pushing on the acorns!
The part about the american groundnut growing along the non-native plants is great demonstration of the permaculture principle 'observe and interact' + 'obtain a yield' / 'catch and store energy'.
And there is many more great examples in this video.
Love to see the principles heavily in use.

I have my little urban food forest going at my home in the city and it's been able to produce a bit of food for me already. Many things won't produce for years to come, but once they do, I believe I'll have some pretty incredible foods that travel nowhere to get to my kitchen.

I always hear people say they spend $500 to make $2 of lettuce, but it's far more than that. It's trucks not having to drive that lettuce. It's tractors and many other gas powered vehicles having to work towards growing them on a commercial farm. It's having produce that's grown in the exact environment that I live.

ill never not be surprised that so many people forget that as social animals, one of our biggest strengths is community knowledge.
like talking to the local farmers shouldve been one of the first steps because they would be the most familiar with the land and what grows in the area

How many of the plants in the forest are also considered fodder for animals? We have chickens and will have pigs in a few weeks. Anticipating sheep and other ruminants in the future. We are on Northern Neck off the Potomac River.

When coming to the passion fruit part of the video I expected a maracuja but it looks vastly different. In case you answer to comments on old videos, would you mind answering what the difference between a Maracuja and a passion fruit is, since it is used somewhat synonimously where I come from?

Amen to feeding the world with forest gardening. Also, I loved watching your video. Is it weird that I could smell the differences between the shaded and sunny areas? I miss the forested yard and garden in which I spent my childhood. City living has it's perks, but home is where the soil is alive.
