i have and don't really recomend if you want budget jst buy quest.... for pc connection is best to buy valve in this day

so it's finally 2025 and I am wondering if its worth it.

If someone still considers buying Rift S - I recommend you do! I bought mine two years ago for 120£ in UK (eBay bid) just to play HL Alyx. Surprisingly I was shocked how good it is. My 2nd hand HS must have been treated very well by previous owner. First issue I had was thumb stick on left controller (was unable to go straight/run). I've fixed the issue by prying thumbstick gently, applying 3-5 drops of Isopropyl 99% and pressured air (I used compressor but compress air in can should do the trick). I know people are moaning about data cable (which can't be replaced if damaged) but I did not have any issues with mine despite stepping on it, running it over with chair and also snapping it from HS accidently (You can;t find replacement even in China ;) ). I do use it both in glasses (there's enough space without spacers) and lenses and I do not complain. Refresh rate (80MHz) is good, controllers are responsive and accurate (make sure you got good light in your play area), cable is long enough (did not do crazy wall clips), despite being old product Meta (*spit*) still updates HS software. I mainly use it to play games (Pavlov VR) but also house interior design and it does the job. If I my wallet was fat I would go for Valve Index (finger tracking etc) but if you have to plan your budget as I do/did Rift S is the best option :)

Short answer: NO!!!
Long answer: This could be the best VR Headset in the world but THE CABLE will eventually fail and then you'll have no way to replace it because its proprietary connector And because its freaking optic fiber WTH?? ... so any cable (expensive) you manage to get, will also eventually fail.

I find it funny that in 2024, the firefox app for the quest still use the rift s controllers models. I didn't really think much of it on the quest 2, but now it's basically 3 generations behind now that I have the quest 3.

i have a question two but recently the battery finally gave out as i have had it since it came out. i’m thinking about getting a rift s and i have a vr ready pc. is a rx580 8gb good for vr?

i got oculus rift first gen, already tried the quest's and i hate them makes my eyes hurt and also pretty heavy. There is also the part where your hardware limited that kinda make me mad to be honest and oculus rift s display quality was millions of times better than the quest screen. So to be honest it is really a best bargen too buy a rift s, i intend too sale mine to buy a rift s used of course. Because a new one i dont think you really can buy one today now but even so it way cheaper used than new and its not worth 300$ for that i woud prefer paying used because they cost 180$ or 200$ max.

I've Rift S since 2019 and it was a good "workhorse" for this almost 5 years with some issues. But now is the time to move on to the Quest 3 and compare what the VR industry has achieved over the years 🤨

I've tried Quest 3 and borrowed Rift S from a friend, if I had spare cash, I'd go for Quest 3, no question. Rift S has really soured my experience with VR for one reason - Cable connection. It was unreliable, constantly disconnected, crashed games, Steam VR and my video card, which required full restart afterwards to work with VR again. Couldn't finish Half-Life: Alyx, which is a great game, but it just completely takes you out of experience when the cable gets in my way, piece of crap. Quest 3 is a breeze, better resolution, better FOV, wireless.

Since I only play Beat saber, the rift s’s latency is far superior and far more crucial for me, compared to the quest headsets. The quest headset’s latency cause a jello feeling, which causes my acc to go from 97 to a 95% and is impossible for me to control. I got a rift s for $50 which is a steal!

I got a Lenovo explorer 5 years ago secondhand for £175 the only reasons im looking at replacement is the hinge has lost resistance and its got a couple of bits of sun damage in the lenses ( my wife was cleaning and knocked it off the desk,when she put it back she left the lenses facing a window)

Oculus Rift S I is fantastic i would upgrade to a reverb g2 v2 for better optics

I wish to see VR room that can offer entertainment for children in Disneyland where glasses can interact with objects inside the room. Like an entertainment spaceship.

These beautiful devices deserve a new era of applications for example : fitness applications that simulate exercises of various sports ..basketball , football... shooting from fixed positions and maybe can interact with smartwatch and display Realtime calories burned by exercises ..

I'd say HELL NO. Because you need a minidisplay port and it really hates working with adapters for other ports.
GLHF if your new laptop doesnt have one! no one will answer any questions you have and no one will ever talk about what adapters work.

Someone about to sell this to me for half of the price of pico 4..

Where is the honest review when you need it

Honestly the Rift S is a great VR headset when it WORKS. The amount of issues that this headset has brought with it is uncountable to the point where mine does not even work anymore. After having to return the headset 3 times and get warranty on 3 different headsets, all were either faulty or eventually broke, with sometimes constant screen stuttering, black screens, terrible cable design with the display cable always disconnecting on its own, i just cannot recommend this headset from my experience. Although when these problems didnt occur, the headset was great, decent tracking, decent clarity and will still give you a somewhat middle-of-the-line VR experience.

whenever I look at the quest 2 or quest 3 I just think of how the rift S just looks like a tank laughing at the two other consoles

I hade mine since it first came out, sadly it kinda died but it was really fun to use.

just picked up an oculus rift s refurbished model on ebay for £90, it was the headset and cable only but i already had quest 1 controllers so it was a fat W. Basically got a brand new headset

I just got my rift s today! I have to fix a couple of issues with my pc but after that Im good to go for my first PCVR experience! Super excited
