I recall going to Tenerife with my parents, and Aunts/Uncles numerous times. But 1 year, I think it was 1986 . We left Birmingham Airport on December 27th, and took the "approx" 4hr flight to Tenerife. It was with Dan Air (long defunct now) When we approached Tenerife we had to circle the island for approx 30min, the weather/wind was so bad, ears were popping, bellies were jiggling, kids were crying, it was horrendous, the worst ever flight we'd been on. The air stewards gave the kids gifts, we had goody bags anyway, but I remember getting a Dan Air Doll, like a barbie, but in their uniform (I've still got it lol) Once landed, It was fab 😅😅 We've walked up Mount Teide numerous times. It smells of Sulphur the higher you get. There was always a big metal weather vane at the very top (not sure if it's still there) The largest tree with roots growing above ground was epic. I think it was El Drago or Pino Gordo, it was in Teide National Park I think, or a little town nearby. The Parrot Park was fab, and the big waterslide park had just been built if I recall correctly. My parents & family used to hire cars, and we'd go sightseeing everywhere
. * When we returned back to UK in mid January 1987, all cars were snowed in at airport, passengers were freezing, as they'd travelled home in shorts/T-shirts to show off their tans 🤣🤣. We couldn't believe what we'd flown back too. I think it was 1 of the worst winters in UK for a few years. Absolutely love Tenerife.
