What sucks even more is it's even less likely Phil will ever recover if Noelle does end up dating Brian after the fact.

idk how to feel about the mother dying as well, was she an enabler to all of the abuse? But Phil said she cares enough about him. The dad is an okay husband at the very least. I think as well noelle is justified into thinking phil is a selfish asshole WHEN HE EMOTIONALLY BLACKMAILED HER, plus he's a weirdo that stalks noelle from the window. You want to point fingers and say well so-and-so is at fault but it's a matter of circumstance, I truly sympathised with Phil at the end but it didn't make the things he did right, just explained his actions. You know it's like how is Noelle supposed to know what he's going through? What kind of mentality did Piper have to go through with the suicide? Did both parents deserve to die? Who decides who gets to die or not.

I know Phil is going through something deep inside of him, but can’t he grow some balls to man up? He’s been acting like a mad man going insane because of himself and being obsessed with Noelle.

This game got me covering my mouth and gasped "HOLY SHIT-"

That's not a horror sim it's my life.

Good twist, good moral; I do feel like the tragedy of the second half feels too different from that of the first though, almost as if the game didn't want to fully commit to the horror of a hikikomori rotting away in their cell.

You really learn to hate phil throughout most of the game

I think i legit had a dream about watching those scenes long time ago.

This oddly specific Deja Vu moment.

This is reminding me a lot of "stay" which is following a very similar path storywise.


Aside from that, this is one of the best indie titles I've ever seen.

i’m gonna be honest, i was expecting phil to have killed the family and it be his guilt that was eating away at him (though i guess survivor’s guilt also applies). piper being the one that snapped makes sense with her characterization though. good game, thanks for covering it!

Damn, i didnt expect the end would be like this

I knew this was a gem when i saw the cooking pot next to the poop bucket...

Wow...! Who would've thunk that I guessed correctly that his whole family died? The shadows and his sister puzzle in his computer really confirms my suspicion that he locked and barred hinself in his room, while his family's corpses rotting somewhere in the house.
Also, that was pretty selfish of Phil during the text of Noelle leaving to Chicago. You can't really put yourself on top of their priority list, when family is more important than friends. Friends didn't birth and raise you, don't they? They only support you, and that's pretty much about it for them. But Phil, hoarding to Noelle like that? It makes my stomach turns...!
Then again, she did do the right thing by checking up on Phil and his family. Because if she didn't and left to Chicago, Brian would've done the same outcome, only that it's not Noelle and her mother. Or worse: Phil may have died in the house, and it was too late for Brian to ever notices it by then.

Sooo.... This game is about Otaku escapism in a nutshell

This is exactly why kids do stupid things now days. I don't know who tough it's a good idea to make a "game" like this. I love horror, but this is very far from horror, this is some psychopath shit right there.

Oh. From the panic attack I thought it was going to be depression or anxiety. So, you know, right thought process, wrong reason. :P Glad the kid at least got a happy ending where he's not jailed for murder and he gets help. Situations like that normally end way worse for the protagonist.

I like Midnight Scenes: A Safe Place, this game impressed me and shocked me at the end!
I like indie games and pixel art, it makes my soul happy! I am glad that nowadays there are people who use pixel art and create such masterpieces!
I hope there will be a continuation of the game in the future, I wish the developer of the game all the best!

Although I was sympathetic to Phil's anxiety, I spent a large part of the game thinking he was a bit of a selfish A-hole, but the ending really changed that. After I completed it I even played through the beginning again and had very different feelings for the poor guy!
