Brilliant cars, driving around scottish mountains will bring the fuel economy down, whereas driving on motorways & A roads I have achieved 50 mpg, everyday use is 35-40 mpg. Choose good Continental tyres and the steering is nicely balanced, Pirellis and some other brands result in twitchy understeer. I wish Volvo had kept the taller tailgate and smooth 5 cyclinder, self levelling suspension on the V90 Cross Country. I much prefer the driving dynamics of the XC70 over the XC60 (too tall).

That’s no ‘07. I own one, and that looks more like a 2008-2010.

So Pop quiz, are the newer V70 & XC70 (Mk3 that was reviewed?) as robust and as long-lasting as the earlier V70 MKII (2000-2008) variants?

Sold my Range Rover two years ago to replace it with a newer model which was sold before I could get up north to buy it, so bought a cheap 2014 XC70 with a 100,000 miles as a run about until another Range Rover came along and found I had bought my dream car, its black and does look like hearse it's 4x4 but without the ground clearance of the Range Rover but that only ventured on to rough carparks, it takes potholes, rubbish bags, large furniture, my dog in it's stride and no one wants to nick it. it sits on my drive way ready to be use which leaves more space in the garage for my 911 Carrera S.

Why do motoring presenters feel like they have to talk with the stereotype motoring presenter type voice? It's pretty annoying. Just talk normally rather than trying to sound like Clarkson. He's the last person anyone should be emulating.

The simple truth is: 90% of people that live in a developed country who own an SUV have absolutely 0 need for it. They just like the way they look and they're more comfortable to get into.

Weirdly it has taken me a while to realise that I want one of these, living in a rural area there are odd times when 2wd can be an affliction. I don't need massive ground clearance and the Haldex AWD is fine for anything I need. Now relatively inexpensive these are a very attractive proposition. Perfect for shopping trips or camping holidays but adequate to tow a trailer with a small race car. Edit: I now have an XC70, absolutely love it. I know I am anti-social but I am praying for snow...

Well the reason I would buy a crossover over a lifted wagon is simple.
There are no wagons to choose from.
I certainly could never afford a new European wagon. They still have offerings. But I cant afford the lack of reliability European cars are known for. Our Volvo was such a mistake. Nothing will ever convince me to get one again. Ibdo think new Volvos look nice tho.
I dont really trust Subaru and the Outback. But again they look nice enough.

So... stuck with crossovers. Sedans and such are just way too ridiculously low these days and very impractical. It makes complete sense to me why people want something lifted up. I am pretty decent driver. But life happens. The lack of ground clearance means I will plow into pavement and so much more. Roads incline and decline very suddenly in my area.

Precisely why MY daily driver is a 2.5i AWD Subaru Outback. Live up a narrow single track road within rural Perth & Kinross, and trust me, it is fully required during the Winter months (fit Snow Tyres and always carry Snow-chains).

Yet for fun Summer Sundays, I also have a MG 1.8TF with the factory-fitted upgrade package (ABS, Front Fog Lights, MG Full Leather Interior, MG Mud-flaps all round). Great summer fun to drive in rural Perthshire with the hood down, but absolutely useless in the winter.
