Additional tip that took a while to learn: If someone throws a temper tantrum at you, especially if it's very early on, that's about them not you. It is not healthy for adults to be throwing temper tantrums. Healthy adults let you know how they are feeling, but they do not explode, insult, yell, etc. just because they feel upset. Protect yourself from emotional abuse.

All great points and we should live by them. Use that block button for guys who don't respect you or even if you just need to get your distance from them. We all want someone and finding a good person isn't easy, it's even harder losing them but we must learn how to deal and cope without losing ourselves.

I am a straight woman, and this is really great advice for anyone. Everything you said about how you used to put your best foot forward, and they to impress the other person, is exactly how I used to be. I found out after it was too late, that I didn't like the person I wanted to like me. We have kids and are going through a divorce. My favorite saying is "Always be yourself. Who you are is going to come out anyway, so why waste your time?"
