The Guatemalan Academy of Mayan Languages, in its most recent report on the country's language situation, stated that at least three indigenous language are at risk of disappearing altogether. The Itza language is the most threatened, it is currently spoken by only 25 people. The Mopan and Chorti languages are also at risk. There are no schools that teach these languages, and the government provides little to no support for their promotion. teleSUR.
