Much love to you Scott thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Keep on doing what you’re doing. It’s great thank you
ОтветитьScott you have no idea how grateful I am for this video thank you !!!!
ОтветитьI think this is really the most useful and practical, it so easy to error with a folder and not realise t ill after. I have got your
point about, Categories…thank you!
This is brilliant. Thank you so much! I’ve started taking photos as a hobby and I was panicking about LR organization literally last night. Wasn’t even looking for videos about it just yet but then yours popped up on my feed and I’m so thankful for that 😊
To the people saying “don’t follow his advice for this or that”: please share your opinion without discrediting his beautiful video. If it doesn’t work for you, that’s great, stick to what you like and if you really want to share with others the way it works for you, there are ways of doing so without sounding condescending ☺️
I directly load photographs to light room. Why do this on the hard drive? This has a lot of good information. Just started using collections.
ОтветитьGreat presentation Scott.
In addition to your advice about not locating the catalog on an external drive:
As a newbie who's migrated (back) from LR to LRC for catalog reason, for some reason the initial catalog LRC created (or found from a previous install?) was located on my Windows OneDrive.
Not a good choice !
Onedrive ended up synching tens of thousands of miniature files and clog up the PC performance, which is not stellar to begin with.
Perhaps this is not an issue to most, or a no-no for beginners... but I thought I'd share the experience
Adobe moving towards mobile and integration because that is the way of the world. Unfortunate there is still such a feeling of disdain or ridicule (?) towards Lr (cloud version) Imagine when Adobe discontinues support and development to LrC
ОтветитьExcellent
ОтветитьThis is probably the most useful photography videos I've seen in the last 5 years
ОтветитьIncredible, Scott. Thank you so much.
ОтветитьGreat video!!
ОтветитьReally great video! You're right! I really learned everything I needed to know. Bye bye folders!
ОтветитьWow! I am so glad I found this! My hobby workflow has been similar to this using folders locally and Photoshop Express. I am moving into Lightroom and was appalled by the thought of organizing by date or having just one catalog. One catalog makes sense and your collection system is similar to how I do my folders and sub folders. I love it! Thanks for the great video!
ОтветитьAdobe... how many times did they change the name of Lightroom... ugh
Ответитьfantastic video !
ОтветитьSo boring. just talk talk and talk, USELESS.
ОтветитьHelp - Great video, it has helped me tremendously. Having said that, when I moved my library to an external drive, it appears that I lost my Nik collection ability, and, all the presets that I had when Lightroom was running local. Any suggestions? I tried re-installing Nik, no luck.
ОтветитьGreat video, thank you. I do have a question though; I prefer to edit everything on my Mac at home, (easy to keep everything on external drive) but I travel for months at a time and have to edit often on my MacBook. How do I resolve this problem?
ОтветитьMan did I need this! Hugh Thanks Scott..and B&H!
ОтветитьGlad I found this - it's a great system. Thanks! But I've already organised hundreds of photos into folders by years. I'd like to reorganise them by topics as you suggest, since LR can give me the year system. I've got them all tagged and everything so I don't want to start from scratch again. What would you recommend - leave them as they are in their folders and use topic folders from now on? Or move them to the new folders inside LR so that it knows where they are? Feels risky to be using the folders but if I move them outside LR it'll be chaos.
ОтветитьWhen Scott says to save the catalog on your computer does he mean to save it in the operating system or in the actual Lightroom Classic file structure? Or will the LRc file structure auto update the operating structure?
ОтветитьIt's like everything in life, once you know, it's simple but first you need to know. Thanks to you Scott I now know how to organise in Lightroom. THANK YOU! 😃
ОтветитьExcellent tips, great talk!
ОтветитьExcellent video Scott, no more adding by date for me
ОтветитьI need to store my Lightroom catalog on a new drive as my 1TB local system drive is running out of space. I tried running the catalog from a regular internal HDD drive but Lightroom speed suffered badly - the lag I got was a pain. I am purchasing a second SSD, this time 2TB. I have considered two options, however. i) Use the new 2TB drive as my new local system drive and also as my Lightroom Catalog location. And ii) install the 2TB SSD as a 2nd local drive dedicated exclusively to the Lightroom Catalog. So existing smaller 1TB SSD is for system files only and the new 2nd drive is Lightroom Catalog only. Would there be any loss in performance having a dedicated, in this case 2nd internal SSD, for the Lightroom Catalog rather than sharing the system drive with Lightroom?
ОтветитьThis video is amazing! I've been watching so many "workflow" videos and most of them are terrible or are super specific to their work. This workflow works for everyone and super clear and easy to understand. Thank you!
ОтветитьThanks a lot for clearing my clutter in my LR workspace..🙂
ОтветитьThanks Scott this is the shot I needed in the arm when it comes to organizing my photos in LRC. I can breath a whole lot better when it comes to organizing my photos using the method you have suggested.
ОтветитьI take a laptop when travelling and do some minor edits. My desktop is for the heavy lifting. How do I keep the catalogues synced on both computers if the catalogue is stored on the desktop?
ОтветитьFinally, a sensible approach to organising photographs with Lr. Thanks very much Scott.
ОтветитьBrilliant, just wish I had seen this video when it first came out, thank you so much Scott!
ОтветитьI have a question:
Is there any way to add a comment on a photo (sometimes I want to explain what I did and why processed in s particular was (specially with Virtual Copy).
I recently started using Backblaze for my whole system.CCC to back up my "photo storage drive" to a second external
ОтветитьGreat presentation. I have taken abourt 4 weeks to sort ALL my photos as per this approach. I feel in control of my digital library for the first time!!
ОтветитьGreat video! I am very new to photography and have a few questions
1. Do you ever delete photos permanently? Since I’m still learning a lot of my photos are just bad
2. In the beginning you imported photos from your external hard drive to LR. Is it wrong to import photos directly from my memory card to LR?
3. Do you reformat your memory card after each shoot?
New to LrC/PS... this was helpful. I do have a question: In the spirit of not using folders, when I go into a collection, pick a photo, develop, edit in PS (save and close in PS), when I return to LrC, the edited file is not in the collection. I can find it stacked with the original in the folders (not in the collection). Synchronizing folder does nothing.... I have to go get the edited file in folders panel to add it to the collection manually. 1. Am I doing something wrong? 2. Is there not an automated way to have the edited file show up in the collection?
ОтветитьGreat presentation.... and great system for organizing your mess in LR. Only thing (objection) is that there is no option that I know of for "delete from disk" when you are working in collections. You can only "delete from disk" ....after flagging rejects, when you are in FOLDERS....the very thing we are supposed to stay away from. If you downloaded the PDF go to page 22 and you will see how it looks like you can delete pictures from disk when you are working in collections but.....I do not think it's possible.
ОтветитьThe link for the handout is being blocked by antivirus software.
ОтветитьExcellent Video! I’m an old guy who has been creating images for some time now. How do you recommend filing previously edited images saved in .jpg for commercial printing? Do you combine the in a subcatagory for printed or complete?
ОтветитьThanks! I really needed this!
ОтветитьI guess that I have been waiting for this a long time. I follow many of the organisation step mentioned, but not the collection and even if I saw other presentations about it, it never made as much sense as in this video. Thanks.
ОтветитьThis is one of your best videos since ever. Thanks B&H and thanks a lot Scott :)
ОтветитьScott,
I will use this video as a reference as you did a great job explaining when, why and how to organize my photos in LRc.
one catalog : what about 400000 pictures ? doesn't everything get dead slow ?
Ответитьso after creating these collections and knowing what one you want to load with photos from the HD with the same denomination where to you go to get these photos and then somehow select them to bring them in to this collection. you seemed to have loaded all photos and cherry picked the ones you wanted for that particular collection. can you just open the folder with the pics for the particular category and say all and then right click and load images into that sub category. this is all unclear to me and the reason LR organization is avoided and not used. there has to be simplify way as others like Cap1 have.
Ответитьok, so why in the hierarchy is Collection set at the bottom and Collection at the top in the three tier set up when visualized the exact opposite happens. what is the difference, as they both look alike?
Ответитьok so why is the hierarchy set up with Collection set at the bottom below Collection. if they look the same what is the difference?
ОтветитьMaybe I'm old and my past LR is too set in my head but I'm not understanding moving all old images and catalogs. I'm just going to start over with a single new catalog from this point on. The problem is LR is still painfully slow even with this new catalog on the main computer drive...to the point of unusable. Can someone help me make LR usable again? Adobe helped via phone once but the problem came back. Really appreciate anyone's help!
