Yelling visited China a few days before Blinken. Not widely reported was Yellin asking China to buy 400B of US treasuries, which China declined. The sanctions for trading with Russia by Blinken is mostly bluff. The big Chinese banks already have stopped processing Russian transactions, and they handle transactions by US companies in China. The smaller chinese banks don't do any business with the US or Europe. But why after 3 years is Blinken pressuring China? It's because the US is losing the proxy war in Ukraine. Everyone is predicting Ukraine will fall even with the 60B just approved. Boris Johnson summed it up when he publicly said, if Russia wins in Ukraine it marks the end of western hegemony. Well not the end,but perhaps the start of the end. If what Boris says is true, would China stop trading with Russia? The economic war the US started with China back in 2016 and has significantly ramped up in the biden admin hurts both sides. But as the US goes from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 15th 16th... round of sanctions, these sanctions hurt the US more than China.
