Probably just gonna hold on to my s23+ for awhile, still plenty fast and plenty of battery life for me.

using the apple like comparison graphs are terrible.
compare to the i9 14th generation, ryzen 9, and threadripper 7xxx pro.
then let's see it at work. otherwise, really, who cares?
these guys did the same silly like comparisons to make claims, the i7. that's not the fastest chip from intel. I want speed. I can cut a few lights off to save power. time is what I can't get more of. speed, speed, speed! pci 6, thunderbolt terabyte transfer rates, 32, 64, 128 gigabytes fast memory on the cpu die, how about that if you want to be impressive. 4 times faster than amd's threadripper 7xxx pro, using only 20 watts. now that is worth having an event to talk about. 4 threads per core.
seems like Qualcomm chip maybe as fast as apple's m3. so, big deal. we all ready have that chip. plus who are we kidding linux and windows are terrible OSs. and charging over 300 for any chip in this day and time... so that will be like amd's threadripper a part that sits on the shelf. nobody uses other than reviewers cause nobody can afford it. why waste engineering hours on that?

I dont trust these benchmarks.. both are gonna run different OS at the base level and so the apps and the operations tht are carried out might be different. Also its 6 core vs 8 core. Even more the sd 8gen 3 has more performance cores than the a17 pro. If u are amazed by the numbers that its outputing.. go checkout dimensity 9300. This one has 4 cortex X4 cores as opposed to 1 of the sd 8gen 3. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The sad reality is that game developers will still favor Apple in the US. There is no reason the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones are not outperforming the Iphone 14 pro Max, other than game developers make all the games CPU dominant since the Iphones have always had shot GPU's, therefore making games less optimal than they should be. Look at the current performance of IOS vs Android in the Warzone Mobile closed play tests.

It's curious how Snapdragon went from trailing behind a 2 year old Apple SOC to now beating this years top offering. It's almost like someone came in and gave them tips which gave them a massive boost in performance... Someone who might have worked at Apple in the past maybe?...

Mutli-core and large GPU cores are tricky, at what point are you just burning your battery due to inefficiency? Are there real workloads that require that throughput? At what wattage? Competition from Samsung would be great too...

What makes this a great chip is the fact that Qualcomm was able to achieve while being on a 4nm node while apple is on 3nm. I expect a 5-10% lower variation on performance in actual devices due to reduced thermals and balance with battery life compared to the reference device. However, I'm more interested to see the AI abilities now on-chip rather than speed

Awesome video, as always. But, at some pont, the battle for "highest performing chipset" becomes pointless. I am not saying they should not keep innovating, but bragging about "high scores" doesn't necessarily translate to better real life changes. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and it's counterparts are more than enough, what I would like to see is innovations in battery technology (high density, long-life) and better thermals.

If we keep this trend of prioritizing high scores then we are encouraging manufactures to keep focusing on that (they supply what we demand) while innovations on other areas of technology lag behind.

Your bias is apparent.
The Snapdragon does seem impressive until you look at the throttling.
They basically overclock it to run the first benchmark faster and then it drops by nearly 50% while the iPhone gives out stable performance.
Reference device cooling is better than a market device not worse.

Run 10 geekbench in a row and 10 RT benchmarks in a row and compare the results of the fifth and 10th run if you want to do a normal benchmark

The performance looks amazing but I would much rather have a consistent 12000 or 14000 score at the wildlife stress test than starting at 20000 for it to drop down to as low as 10000. When you're gaming and you see your graphical performance HALVED because of throttling it is a CATASTROPHIC experience. I like what the iPhone and Pixel are doing and the 8G3 could achieve similar stability and consistency with even better scores.

Apple is officially 1 generation behind in GPU performance while they are now on equal field in CPU performance. The Bionic design was probably 2 generations ahead back in 2017. Now that's no longer the case! This means the era of the Bionic should end! Apple needs new design if they want to remain competitive. On the plus side if we look at the naming Apple is most likely planning a replacement for the Bionic or a big increase. When it comes to chips when there is a "Pro" there is also a "Max". There might be an A-series Max version of the SoC coming next year. They really need that. Qualcomm is on a row right now! They are at a point where custom cores are right around the corner.

99% of indivdiuals, small businesses, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, educational institutions, nonprofits, and CORPORATIONS across the planet keep their computing devices (laptops/desktops), on AVERAGE, for 5 to 7 years. This means CPU performance is NOT important when it comes to just about everyone's JOB.
