It is surely expensive to shop Indian Groceries in America as those are foreign goods, but that doesn't stop us desis to go and grab Indian groceries. And yes comparatively Buying basics like Vegetables, oil, basic salt and sugar from Indian Store in USA is expensive than buying it from an American Grocery store which is much cheaper.

Conclude: Converting to Indian currency when shopping Indian food here will make it seem very expensive, buy hey, you earn in US Dollars and are spending in same. So think of it in that way instead of comparing it in Indian Rupees.
