A router is a device that passes data between one or more local area networks (LANs).
A gateway is a device or node that connects disparate networks by translating communications from one protocol to another.
My teacher is asking me "Do you need a gateway if you have a router?" can someone please help me with this question

ОтветитьI appreciate this simple answer to this question. I was fairly certain I had it correct when I was doing my homework based on what I was reading, but I wanted to verify and your little diagram there just made me 100% confident.
ОтветитьThank you. Very clear and concise! (and the semi-transparent hand was a nice touch)
ОтветитьNo MAC addresses within each network?
ОтветитьDefault Gateway is basically what lets you connect to something outside your broadcast domain (VLAN); in this case trying to connect to the internet or if Alice was trying to connect to Chandra (since Chandra is outside of Alice's domain).
ОтветитьSo default gateway = your local router?
