Why Total Drama Pahkitew Island Failed: A Retrospective

cooking up videos in the studio rn, not sure of my schedule but I’ll try to keep you guys updated in my community tab. also I’m not just gonna stay tied to making total drama content, though it may seem that way right now (two 30 minute videos on it back to back)

I'm watching the clips here of Sugar that are supposed to be "not funny" but I'm dying laughing! Pahkitew is honestly one of my favorite seasons. I see all ur points but Sugar is hilarious, Shawn is a great character, Scarlett going crazy was a great episode, Sammy getting revenge on Amy was so satisfying, and I loved every scene with sugar in it. Idk. Maybe I just have horrible taste but Pahkitew is my second favorite season behind Island.

What i think of every character from best to worst:
1. Jasmine (lets be honest she carried Pahkitew Island. She had the best dynamics like her relationship with Shawn and her friendship with Samey has to be the best plotline of the season. Overall B tier character.)
2. Samey (speaking of Samey. Really good and interesting character but her treatment was horrible and she was booted WAY too early. Would’ve been a much better female lead than Sky. Overall B tier character.)
3. Beardo (really funny and solid character imo. Had so much potential. They literally set up an arc for him in his audition tape only for them to not use it. Overall B tier character.)
4. Topher (really funny character but should’ve interacted more with the other contestants as he only really did with Jasmine. Overall C tier character.)
5. Ella (had a surpising amount of depth to her. Can’t say i hate her. Nothing more to say other than shes a C tier character.)
6. Max (really funny character. Could’ve been better tho. Overall C tier character.)
7. Shawn (a mixed bag. Sometimes he’s awful but sometimes he’s decent especially when he’s around Dave and Jasmine. Other than that his zombie jokes are just shit. Overall a C tier character.)
8. Leonard (he was funnier in RR. But he was ok here i guess. D tier.)
9. Scarlett (ohhhh boy…. She SUCKS she’s literally a Susan Test clone and her twist was absolutely stupid. She’s boring and she sucks. E tier.)
10. Rodney (he uhhhhh falls in love with girls….. thats it… F tier.)
11. Dave (i thought he was great in the first 2 episodes when he called out Beardo and Leonard for being insane. After that he got worse and started to revolve too much around Sky. I also love his dynamic with Shawn. F tier)
12. Sky (i hate her. She even stupider than fucking All-Stars Zoey. She sucks ASS. F tier)
13. Amy (do i need to explain? F tier.)
14. Sugar (oh my god. This character was absolutely horrendous. I hope she never ever comes back. F tier.)

Crazy how y'all overlooked sky playing Dave in the end and leading him on despite having a boyfriend the whole time.

I love Shawn because he's one of the more normal one despite being a paranoid schizophrenic and bro carries the whole season

"she's a tall girl, which technically in this show is new" not even! Sierra is really tall too but nobody in the show aknowledge it so

i think the world woul've been a better place if Dave just didn't exist, his so damn annoying, 100% most hated character in total drama, and the fact they didn't even have a actual thretening villain, at least all-stars had one.. even if Mal wasnt acting like human, but.. Mike having multiple character disorder is already not human so. at times i keep changing my opinion either Pahkitew Island or All Stars is the worse season in total drama

Splitting the production between All Stars and Pahkitew screwed over both, All Stars had too many ideas with too little time, and a villain who's comedically lame and only gets away with everything because everyone else is painfully dumbed down, it needed 26 episodes and a better cast. Pahkitew being a season that takes itself less seriously could have worked but the execution was awful. The artificial island twist would have worked much better if they played it that way from the beginning instead of calling it "Pahkitew" and creating the most unmemorable team names and challenges possible. And the cast being completely crazy with almost nobody to ground them.
Beardo: Waste of a character, contributed nothing but making scenes clunkier
Leonard: I'm fine with him, he's a good early boot and his inclusion in Ridonculous Race as the first elimination was honestly funny. Although he does contribute to the problem of having no realistic characters that worked so well in the first generation cast
Amy and Samey: Over the top good and evil twin. somehow, even though they're meant to be indistinguishable twin characters Samey's small arc made them a relatively memorable part of the season. Relatively. That isn't saying much.
Rodney: His entire purpose is to embarrass himself over every girl and do nothing else
Ella: One of the most out-there characters as a disney princess reference, but surprisingly had a slight bit of depth. would have been a fine inclusion as an oddball in another season with better characters to play off of
Topher: Being a Chris wannabe and trying to steal his spotlight is funny but he overstays his welcome very quickly
Dave: Definitely an intentionally unlikable character. a "nice guy" who sees himself as the only sane person (increasingly ironic) and can't accept any reason his love interest wouldn't like him. Torture to watch but I'm sure that was the intent
Scarlett: Would have worked better as simply a ruthless braniac. Becoming evil was over the top, if she didn't become actually evil I would have liked to see her in another season
Max: comedic in small doses, insufferable when he lasts this long and isn't balanced out by sane characters
Jasmine: One of the only good and grounding characters in the show, she could have fit in with the other casts.
Sugar:
Sky: Zoey 2 but with absolutely no personality. They clearly wanted her to be the straightman of the show, but she does nothing of her own and is memorable only because of Dave. She's a finalist but is one of the least memorable characters.
Shawn: One of the only good characters. He's a zombie conspiracy nut but his survival skills, athleticism and useful knowledge makes him a well rounded character (a miracle in this season), him and Jasmine are the only good part of this season

It also feels like Dave and especially Sky are ripoffs of Mike and Zoey's character designs.

(Dave and sky where always rivals never crushing)

(Rodney doesn’t fall in love with everyone but instead twitches every 30 sec)

(In Alfred’s elimination, Isabel and anaya make eyes and blush)

Olivia:anyone going to miss me
Isabel: 🖕🏼no out now
(When eliminated Raina punches Lee in the face and “you know who” after cackling at her)
(Everyone is at the finals)

Season 6 is bad but I still don't get how the fuck do so much people think it is worst then fucking all stats, all stars is bad in every single fucking way but season 6 at least has some good aspects like our beloved zombie boy, but all stars is just fucking horrible in every single way, not even the old characters we already loved are good in that fucking season, just wanted to say my opinion.

I just rewatched it. I thought it was funny every time Bella tried to be friends with Sugar, and failed miserably

I honestly think the show makers should try to make a 20 episode season instead of 13, just those few more episodes can bring out some more character development and interactions

The only characters I liked were Sammy,Jasmine,Sky and Shawn that’s how horrible it is

so many characters felt like they were background characters pretty impressive to make almost an entire main chats feel like extras when they’re the only ones u see.
edit, for beardo in his audition he actually speaks and seems to have a personality but never got to be used

I'm sorry, but there is no way that this season is worse than all stars. I would rather walk a mile through broken glass whilst watching Pahketew Island than watch All Stars once.

The voices of Amy and Samey also did Caillou. And the voice of Dave also Carlos in The Magic School Bus.

scarlett was such wasted potential, i thought she'd have a more sinister motive than just 'mwahaha give me the mil or your robo island explodes!'

The major issue is these character personalities are becoming more detached from reality. Everyone in the original Total Drama Island could have existed and most were plausible in Revenge; however, the new stereotypes used are so divorced from most of the common populace that even those who are realistic suffer.

I hate to make the comparison but the cast of Pahkitew, in terms of writing and design and "archtypes", are more akin to somebody's danganronpa ocs than an actual total drama product.

Tbh the only characters i liked were Beardo Shawn Jasmine and Ella. I wish they were in future seasons man

I really don't like sugar. If it wasn't Dave being a whole nice guy, it would be sugar because it's the way she dogged on Ella for existing.

It's honestly a wonder to me on why Sugar would be beefing with Ella. {Though then again, I guess because Ella's such a sweet girl, it's easy for people to easily take advantage of her kindness and the way she goes about her it. Especially in a show like total drama. 🚶}

Having just watched the latest season, it's pretty much Pahkitew Island all over again but with slightly better character interactions and humour. Strategy and animation were also highlights in that season but overall it's just a little better than this season.

This was the first season I watched fully and thought it was good until seeing the others.

Jasmine and Shawn are the main reasons why I think this season is better than All Stars

I was kind of zoning in and out while watching Pahkitew Island but still relatively enjoyed the run, which is more than I can say for Revenge of the Island. I'll be honest though, I skipped All Stars as it had characters from the previous season that I straight up didn't care for and didn't want to see them again.

In my personal opinion, while Pahkitew Island was rough around the edges, it was a bit more enjoyable and had a cast I actually liked (aside from Dave, Amy, Max and Sugar).

I think I read somewhere that the writers in the beginning were genuine fans of survivor and that’s why the first season was so good and believable, but later on Cartoon Network played a hand in making the series more…unrealistic and…eccentric.
I don’t think it’s the writers fault tbh. They just worked within the margins they were given🤷🏻‍♀️
