Flash Gordon 1980 along with Moonraker with Roger Moore and The Black Hole with Robert Forster are the most underappreciated sci-fi films of all time and I really like Flash Gordon 1980. Flash Gordon is a very good and awesome sci-fi film with a stellar Queen soundtrack, the scene where Flash Gordon defeats Emperor Ming was great, and Max von Sydow as Emperor Ming as well as Dr. Hans Reinhardt and Maximilian the Robot are one of my favorite sci-fi villains.
I also love both Moonraker and The Black Hole from 1979. Moonraker is a very good Roger Moore bond film, The Black Hole is a very underrated and excellent sci-fi Disney film, and the John Barry music scores for Moonraker and The Black Hole were both brilliant. Overall, I always liked Flash Gordon, The Black Hole, and Moonraker, 1979 and 1980 were both great years for sci-fi films, and Flash Gordon with Max von Sydow along with Moonraker and The Black Hole are all way more better films than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Force Awakens.
