I looked at the link that you posted for Rocklers and all there slabs said NO LONGER AVAILABLE WTF is that all about
ОтветитьNicely done - I'd think about using inserts for a couple reasons - take apart / assembly multiple times, and stronger connection -
ОтветитьHow do you keep slabs from cracking when they dry?
ОтветитьI thought you said "I kinda feel like a Jew" rather than "I kinda feel like I cheated"... I was like WTH!
Ответить90 percent of slab, live edge, river tables are just lazy unskilled want to bee wood work
ОтветитьI literally haven’t ever seen any woodworking video where they made a finished product and DIDN’T apply the finish at the end of the video. Maybe it’s because they also sell their own finish, or they’re sponsored by the company that makes them. 😅
ОтветитьOrdered!
ОтветитьDo you also recommend Arm-R-Seal for a live slab Dinning Room table? Ken
ОтветитьGreat video. I wish we had that option up north. Let's see a Red Wings project for your friends in Western Canada who love you and the winged wheel.
ОтветитьWe have several people in our area that sell slabs on marketplace. A few will flatten them and have very good prices.
ОтветитьStop exposing our secrets 😂
ОтветитьAnyone who spends $600 for that first "thing" shown, deserves to lose all their money.
ОтветитьWhy are people making a ton of money with this stuff???
Because society is dumb, and will jump on any and every trend that comes along,
so they can remain "up with tbings", and because people have a very deep need and desire to fit in, be liked, and considered cool and above all... doing well financially.
They rarely think about what they're spending because it doesnt matter, because they have to give the appearance of being wealthy,
and, they just pull out their credit card...
They want to seem cultured, sophisticated, etc...
Its all actually hilarious to me...
Anyone being duped with scams like this, deserve to be scammed.
That fake live edge is just getting suckers to empty their wallets
ОтветитьCurious as to the moisture content of the slab. Too much bow and warp for me right out of the box. Concerned about what it looks like as the months pass. That would have gone back to the store for me. But as usual, you knocked it out of the park.
ОтветитьUmm.... Where do I start..... Nevermind, wasting time I can use to do it right.
ОтветитьAnd your slab is cupping
ОтветитьBark does not have to come off. I made walnut cribbage boards, up to four feet long leaving the bark on, it has stayed on for the last fourty years no issues!
ОтветитьThe brash brush is a brush from steel?
Already learned a lot from you. Translation is sometimes difficult 😅.
I use the brown paper bag too. It's a great buffer. Hard to get them anymore around here...
ОтветитьNice project, thanks much.
ОтветитьHigh end beautiful slab furniture with high end finishing and hardware is very labor-intensive and takes a lot of time and tools. There's a reason real slab furniture, done right, is expensive.
ОтветитьThanks for the video and tips. Still need to finish my 2" thick black walnut live edge. Wood was free :) Testing with 10 light coats amber shellac on a piece of scrap look awesome! Get that sweet "shimmer / iridescence" from the grain. I tried a couple of film finishes - meh.
ОтветитьI definitely don't want to buy that $600 "live edge" table. It's not even a true live edge. I will say that I would love to buy one of Blacktail Studio's live edge tables, but I just don't have enough money. Your video provides a great alternative, although I would prefer to make the legs myself.
ОтветитьGreat video. Do you expect any further warping or twisting from such a slab? I have plenty of Macrocarpa slabs and was considering to use them as they are, but I am out very experienced and I am afraid that they would bend later on
ОтветитьPutting a slab of wood on top of a metal frame you bought, is hardly woodworking. I’ll be glad when this fad is over. I’m not hating. Just calling a spade a spade
ОтветитьAlthough I'm just a weekend novice, I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and perspective!
ОтветитьAnother trick is to just plane the areas that the legs will sit on to keep everything square.
A little fiddley but worth it
I agree on the legs. Flat bottomed long legs are a nuisance. 4 points of contact make things a lot easier.
By turning the legs upside down and shortening the lengths to make "feet", I think they would have worked better, but that is just me.
Thanks so much
ОтветитьIf you drill some holes and make four small triangular shoes out of that peace you cut off, it would stabilize the table and might look cool.
ОтветитьIt should be noted.... this only applies to clear lumber. If you're like me and you go for spalting, checked, or otherwise "defective" wood, it gets much more difficult. Don't be me. Be smarter than me lol.
ОтветитьMade some live edge coffee tables almost 50 yrs ago real wood legs
ОтветитьPaying amount was a GREAT price.!! Mills by us are out of control!
ОтветитьAny technique to eliminate the "cup" in long pieces, typically 7 to 8 feet long by 8 inches, if only tool is the jointer with a 75 x 8 inch bed?
ОтветитьThe person who's actually making a killing is whoever is making those dumb legs lol
ОтветитьI worry about the slab cupping with time. Can you not place battens across the grain on the underside, just enough less than the width of the slab that the ends aren't seen? One on each end about where the legs attach should do it. Also, on the legs you chose for your table, why not drill the horizontal portion that rests on the floor, and cut a couple of pieces of the same wood as the tabletop and mount them beneath the metal legs? Cut them about two inches longer and about an inch wider than the steel. Countersink the screws underneath, and put felt pads on the bottom to protect the floor where the table sits. I really enjoy your videos, everything is clearly explained and you don't try to act like a rock star or play obnoxious music.
ОтветитьFinished a giant executive style 2" Acacia slab desk with Armor seal, beautiful stuff.
ОтветитьWhy not Rubio Monocoat?
ОтветитьI suppose wood movement isn’t a problem with the leg attachment because of the gap at the top, essentially making them springs?
ОтветитьA brown paper bag! Wow thank you so much 😁
ОтветитьWorked in the furniture industry for years. The fact that anyone buys the garbage sold at box furniture stores is madness to me.
ОтветитьWas as few more than 2 tools but good video
ОтветитьI have slabs. I'd say I have tons of tons. Lol. I have a couple sheds full of future work. Check my last vids. I chainsaw mill my own.
Good show.
The legs are the wrong type for that style table. jmo
ОтветитьThings I learned today - use a brown paper sack to smooth out a finish.
ОтветитьNeat video, very informative! Perhaps a strange question, but what do you end up doing to the rags you use for your finishes? I'm pretty new to woodwork, and after reading about the chance of those things spontaniously combusting I'm very paranoid about leaving anything that's touched oil, and kind of unsure how to dispose of them.
ОтветитьGreat video! Thanks for all the useful information.
ОтветитьThat style leg is too unstable for my use.
ОтветитьHow does Waterlox Original compare with Arm-R-Seal?
Ответить
