The first and third problems are clearly misconstructed. I'm not familiar with lateral thinking, but let me tell you this, if you have all the problems presented in a clear, precise language with all the information related to them, you'd reach a logical conclusion regardless of what you'd name the method.

Based on your presentation, lateral thinking is the common sense we use, but with misconstructed language, so it describes a situation and not a method.

The wording on the egg thing is misleading. “Left” implies that the egg was not taken. “Still in the basket” is better

One of the guys could have taken an egg off someone who took an egg already. That way they all would have taken an egg, but there could still be one in the basket. I guess you might say that I was stretching the language somewhat but I would counter that simply taking and egg doesn't require keeping it.
