Stream Deck Advanced OBS Studio Control - Setup Guide

Hey Guys - This is WIndows Only for Now as Mac OS security does not allow one app to control another (with a few exceptions). Hopefully there will be a solution soon.

@askdrtk Question about dropped frames on the stream deck: Is there a way to tie in an audio sound to the monitor (not the stream) to indicate there's trouble with the stream? I've been struggling to find a solution as I stream live sports and often can't keep checking on my stream health. Thanks!

i suggest adding obs tools by barraider since this was a good walk through of it

GUYS - make sure you are launching OBS as Administrator for full OBS functionality.

Some of the Mac references in this video seem a bit outdated or uninformed.

Is this working yet with OBS 28? I cant seem to get the password to set in the websocket settings

Hi, the recent update for the OBS, (28.0.1) for Windows keeps giving me the error, "obswebsocket failed to load. Please update or remove these plugins."
I've read your advice and solutions to other users who has encountered the same issue but it appears that obs-websocket 4.9.1 is incompatible with the latest obs update.
Do you have alternative solutions?

I basically wanted to install obs bar raider in order to control the visibility of a specific color source. (Like hiding it as on or off).

Thank you so much for this video. This helps a lot. I do have a small issue and I hope you maybe know how it comes. When I put one of the OBS Tools in my stream deck, it shows a button with "Update websocket" on it. This overrides everything (for example CPU usage won't show). This is for all OBS Tools. The functions do work though, except when it should display something, it can't.

Edit: Did some digging into the comments. I have the 4.9.1. version of obs websockets. I can't seem to find a download for a newer version.
Edit2: Found it. Downloaded and installed. Unfortunately same problem.
Edit3: Deleted all websocket files and the obs tools plugin. Restarted pc. Downloaded websocket 4.9.1. And the obs tools plugin again. Restarted PC. Now its working!

Thank you for your video. I have downloaded the previous version 4.9.1 of Websocket. When I dragged one of the functions into the streamdeck the icon showed 'update websocket'. So I downloaded the latest 5.0.1 but it still shows the same. Any idea here?

How come it always says UPDATE WEBSOCKET? Already download the 5.1 version

Didn't know OBS tool is not available for Mac users. It would be nice to know in the beginning of this video.

"OBS Tools" doesn't show up when I type OBS in the plug in tab in Stream deck.

There is no OBS tools plugin for streamdeck when using a mac - maybe its been removed on later versions - im using the latest June 2022 XL deck

thanks for opening the universe.. I have been using OBS strictly as a virtualcam for years, zoom, skype, messenger, discord and more... never tried to stream from OBS at all... until recently when I found out,,,all my audio which was setup in voicemeeter potato doesnt control the audio inside OBS... so by googeling.. I came to your place..and thanks for sharing your tips.. most of us are beginners, right and a helping hand is always welcome :) I will now go to the next part how to control the audio mixer inside OBS with a streamdeck... obviiously nothing I do in voicememeter is changing inside OBS audio mixer even if I had it perfect setup with microbuttons... I am out of control what happens inside OBS...well...I wish twitch would make it easier. and let us use OBS virtualcam too.. but I hope with your next video I can control my mixes better. N

hey askdrtk, when i installed obs tools by BarRaider, i put remote recording start/stop and all it says is update Websocket but I cant find out how. can you please help me?

In studio mode is there a button for executing transitions without using my mouse? I take scenes to preview and then want to take them to program by pushing a Fade or cut button on the stream deck.

Hi, I have a problem, when I try to set a password in websocket it is not set, for that reason Streamdeck does not link to OBS, I even tried to disable websocket authentication and still it does not link.

I am trying to add a "Source volume adjust", however everytime I do, and even with OBS open on the next screen, it is impossible to choose a source (it does not show me anything). Do you have any idea how to fix this issue ? I am out of options, I do not understand why it doesn't let me !

obs tools does not show up for me

Thank you for this. I have an Elgato Wave 3 and it unlocks the Wavelink software. This was great software for volume control on the stream deck between scenes when I was using SLOBS and recording multiple tracks of my streams. The software has a Wavelink Stream aux channel that you can use to send your mix to the live stream.

Once I moved over to OBS, Wavelink did not like me using the Wavelink Stream channel and the seperate wavelink tracks for recording as well. It created a really bad echo, so I had to go with the seperate tracks, but lost volume control. I have been looking for months to figure out a solution to get the fade control back. This is exactly what I've been searching for.

im struggeling with the medai control setup tho when i add the media source it stays there instead of popping up with the video media button on the stream deck
