ОтветитьOh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watching the puddles gather rain
And all I can do
Is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view
But it's not sane
It's not sane
I just want someone to say to me
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll always be there when you wake, yeah, yeah
You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today, hey
So stay with me and I'll have it made (I'll have it made)
And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape
Escape
Escape
Escape
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
You don't like my point of view and I'm insane
It's not sane
It's not sane
I just want someone to say to me
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll always be there when you wake, yeah, yeah
You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today, hey
So stay with me and I'll have it made
I'll have it made (I'll have it made)
And I'll have it made (I'll have it made)
Oh no, no
You know we're really gonna
Really gonna have it made
You know we'll have it made
we were robbed of what more could have come from these guys,,,
ОтветитьI was nine when this album came out. I loved this song so much I used to watch MTV religiously hoping it would come on. I got some money for my birthday and I insisted that I would spend my money on this album. So my parents took me to the mall to buy it. My dad teased me that I had a crush on the little girl in the video. Anyways we come home with the cassette and my dad started listening to the song just to see what all I was listening to. He misunderstood the lyrics in this song and thinks the lead singer is reading "The great escape". Well he lights up and started telling me about how that's his favorite movie. And goes on about Steve McQueen being a great actor and just being a badass in general. So the next day he comes home with the VCR tape of "The great escape " and we sat down together and watched it. I tell him I really liked it too. So he's telling me all this stuff about McQueen, like how he would do his own stunts and races motorcycles, etc. The next week he comes home from work with "Bullet" another McQueen movie lol. And we watched that too. Same results. We talked and talked about his movies and we have a nice bonding moment. That I still obviously remember to this day. And to think Blind Melon was at the heart of it all. Long story I know, but it's very special to me and I wanted to share it.
ОтветитьOhhh yes, when music was good
ОтветитьI keep seeing all these comments about people having strong nostalgia for the 90's when they hear this song, but this song, to me, conjures the sadness, loneliness, and heavy isolation I faced as young male-bodied person growing up in the 90's with ADHD and autism but who didn't KNOW they had ADHD or autism and had no framework for understanding the ostracism, derision, bullying, and social-emotional pain that was my daily life.
I feel that isolation particularly in lines like "I don't understand why I sleep all day and I start to complain that there's no rain." The inversion of expectation here, that you would appreciate the sunny day and be thankful for it but instead feel alienated and morose and wish for the rain...the desire to sleep away the pain of the day...so poignant to me. I keenly remember faking being sick MANY days to try to get out of having to go to school where I would be beaten up on the bus almost every day and had no idea how to make it stop. I fucking hated the 90's. Good song though.
Please. Please. Don't Go Away. Loss of culture is a serious matter. Please stay.
ОтветитьI fuckin miss you Shannon
ОтветитьThe gateway scene is how I felt when I joined the goth and steampunk communities, and when I joined my Progressive Christian church. After a decade of bullying in school, I have finally found my Tribe of True Friends.

Ответить48 years old and this is the first time this song made any sense. Or maybe it’s the first time I actually paid attention to the lyrics. I wipe the tear from my eye and realize I was so damn lucky to have been a teenager in the 90s.
