It's really not problematic unless you are a woke snowflake. To find a way to be victimized by other people's choice in clothing is truly pathetic.
ОтветитьFor Christ sakes ... y aren’t we capitalizing off of it.
ОтветитьAwesome!
ОтветитьYou are so incredibly privileged to have the time to complain about people wanting to dress better. And trying to connect dressing nice to slavery? Jesus you people are insufferable.
ОтветитьI kinda like this trend, as im getting older im more drawn to neutrals and the sort of modern classic style mixed with quiet luxury. Kristin Cavallari does a great job of this.
ОтветитьDisagree on the make up sis. I flocked to higher priced make up because of the pay off. But drug store brands have caught up, at least some. Not their foundation though. It’s EL double wear for me sis
ОтветитьI didn't know Sophia Richey existed until just now. I love Lionel, though!
ОтветитьInteresting considering Le Corborssier who championed the minimalism aesthetic was a known facist 😮
ОтветитьScott Disick is not Kourtney's ex husband, he is the father or her three, just her ex but not her husband.
ОтветитьIs anyone else frustrated at this being referred to as a 'trend'? I feel it's the novices who got into very casually following fashion during the hypebeast/ logomania era who are just now discovering ‘quiet luxury’ and ‘stealth wealth’, calling it a trend, and discussing it ad nauseam on social media in what feels like an evolution of their idea of luxury. The pendulum is swinging away from that era, and they noticed.
Did they not notice quiet luxury is nothing new? That part genuinely gave me pause. 🤔It’s bizarre seeing people behaving as if quiet luxury is some kind of brand new idea or aesthetic. It's not a 'trend', it's been people's lifestyle for decades. If anything it's a mindset. It makes sense for a lot of people to avoid the trending hopping and invest in timeless, versatile, understated pieces in neutral tones made from quality fabrics. Since when is that 'new'?
I call it "Stupid Luxury". Rich people paying $900 for a gray T shirt that looks just like a $5 shirt from Target?
ОтветитьMost of my clothes are 2nd hand. I am trying, to be myself. If that's what a certain, possibly rich man likes and if I like the certain man, we will see. - But what do I know? I am living from paycheck to paycheck. That is something, I am changing. The fact, that I am without a rich man, may change, if he can show me, that he will not take away my freedom, because my freedom and my inner peace are mostly important.
ОтветитьQuiet luxury and all bankers etc are racist.. the only date tall blonde women ..
ОтветитьSubtle but opulent wedding???
What are you talking about? It can’t be both.
This went from fun fashion to slavery real fast.... 🫣
ОтветитьHere's how I know there is a lot of puffery in this genre.
Because...when you find something that WORKS, why would you CHANGE it? Why?
OK, I'll give the following possible reasons...
1) There may be acute moments of change, but that doesn't happen every year. Not even every year or month. For instance, skin changing in pregnancy or menopause.
2) A company changes the formula of a product and it no longer works. So you have to search for another solution to replace it.
I have 1-3 influencers I watch RELIGIOUSLY because they have some of the same skin concerns I do, and their suggestions have REALLY worked.
Other items? Gifted to me. I have a play daughter who works in retail and gives me Ole Henriksen, Sisley and Clarins samples on the REGULAR! I don't have to pay for it.
I have to replenish skin care MAYBE once a year, that's how long it all lasts. When Covid hit, and I wasn't in the polluted air every day? It REALLY saved using products! I am JUST NOW, in 2024, replenishing a few things.
7 skin care brands, 19 items. I only use 4 every day. The others are used in those acute cases of need. Usually acne breakouts when cycling or cleansing. So they last 4-EVER! Especially since I was given a cosmetic fridge!
3 makeup brands, 4 items I use every day.
These items work. ALL.THE.TIME. So I don't need to keep buying!
The ONLY thing that I constantly buy is perfume...because perfumes are actually unique and I wear them every day...so yes, I run out.
I watch hauls and such for inspiration and background noise while doing my skin care or cleaning. I was surprised to find out how many other ladies do the same.
Let me re-emphasize, if it gets really hot where you are? A cosmetic fridge will be AWESOME for preserving your more expensive skincare. You don't want an $80 cream that should last a year going bad in one hot season. Just a thought.
For some reason, I could NEVER get into the luxury purse thing. I don't know why. My designer bags were inheritances from my aunts. I've been asked by girlfriends, why I am not into certain brands.
I honestly think some people buy things so others can say they are somebody. I honestly think Louis Vuitton is quite ugly. LOL
Never liked Coach.
REALLY hated Dooney and Burke when it was popular.
One Chanel I was given.
Goyard bag collection given me by family...love them...but would never buy them.
I purchased 2 Chloe bags I fell in love with 8 years ago and have never purchased a luxury bag since. They totally fit my biz life.
Other than that? I actually have about 4 bags from...gasp! Amazon! I
My self care obsession is HEALTH and WELL BEING. Buying my Vitamix, my Pure Juicer, fasting, improving the quality of my water (Reverse Osmosis system!), turning my phone off at 8 pm ('You no call me after 8!' LOL), getting custom bloodwork done so I know EXACTLY what my body needs, getting custom vitamins designed for my body, getting IV flushes every month, fasting from social media for certain periods every quarter, prayer, recopying the Bible for the second time, playing my strings and cooking...because it relaxes me.
Haven't had personal social media in over 5 years. Only for my business. My face is barely ever visible there.
One of the best QUALITY things you could EVER do for yourself is to get your OWN custom bloodwork done independent of your doctor. Just doing it once! You will get a microscopic view of why you have certain irregularities and then start crafting an eating regimen to address what you find. Best thing ever! (You will get tired of the Doc telling you there's nothing wrong with you, and you know better. Be your own doctor.) Make self-care count! Don't waste on how things LOOK, what's going on under the HOOD?
Girl, you said it all! I’m over here like preach😂🙌🏾
ОтветитьAs the Caretaker of an abandoned 1870s African American ( freed slaves ) cemetery... this is something interesting to learn about for sure.
ОтветитьI am NO money so idgaf how OLD or NEW money dress. They live better lives than me anyway.
ОтветитьThe thing is new money is very often people of color. I'm not talking about wearing labels but being new to having money. Old money goes back to slavery. It's racist and classist.
ОтветитьAre any of the camps or places that Jews were kept in in the Holocaust being used as airbnb listings in Germany ?
Oh ok.
Old money is not my standard lol...I love my gucci/versace/brooks brothers and my look has always been understated and it's never been in...and now it is and I still don't give a shit. I love my personal style and happy I don't subscribe to the "trends", enjoy trying to please other people.
ОтветитьAny time something becomes a trend in the 21st century you had better run the other way. Don't get caught up in that mess.
ОтветитьI think that Airbnb piece was a little silly. Yes, a bit in bad taste. But most historical destinations globally would have to be torn down by the same criteria (slave residences, built by slaves, etc.).
ОтветитьThe fact that a plantation where people of color were kept as slaves was all of a sudden turned into a cabin for people to stay in and the fact that people in the cabin reviews were SO ignorant about this plantation that turned into a cabin not only is that very anti-black but it's absolutely enraging and it's disgusting and it's not ok at all, if Martin Luther King jr were still alive right now and he saw that, he'd be highly disappointed as much as i am, i can guarantee you that😠😡
ОтветитьI love old money , iit feels so chic and exclusive . That' s what we need nowadays : exclusivity over inclusivity . My wardrobe is now almost all Loro Piana e Brunello Cucinelli
ОтветитьThis must be how quiet luxury is looked at for women?? Or maybe I’m confused on what quiet luxury style is😭
ОтветитьOne thing that never crossed my mind but makes total sense is that old money is basically white aesthetic.
It doesn't include old money from people of colour. Because our ancestors who had money, they wore intricate embroidered designs, colors, jewellerys.
Plus it doesn't make sense to look like you come from money, when you're broke af.
The only good thing about this trend is to use it as inspiration, like any other trends.
African Americans are the reasons why they have old money free labor for 40yr
ОтветитьOld money are the people you never see. One of the best books to read is Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. Old money has a phenomenal history of exclusion and slavery. Old money can ruin a reputation with a whisper- I worked in Princeton- where old money were the worst dressed on Nassau at. And lived in a few rooms in their massive homes to save on electric. I really wished the trend setters used a better phrase than old money. There is a higher class that lives in the stratosphere who wouldn’t be caught dead in designer clothes.
I love your videos glad I found you.
Well, it is white successors of wealthy slaves owners (or those who rebelled against slave ownership and helped abolish it) who love neutrals, but it is Indian, Asian, Arab and African slave traders and owner's successors who love other aesthetics- bright colours, silks, logos, gold.
You can always find an ex slave trader, owners, or exploitation heis style for your own liking if you search based on such parameter.
Perhaps it's time to detach from the trauma, to move on, and simply pick a style. That style doesn't have to resemble a KKK hood or Inquisition cross, though :)
Cheers.
Celebrities are just puppets that are going to promote anything a manager or team tell them to promote. Do you think celebrities know how was the product made? if the company is honest with the consumers? or if the product contain dangerous/toxic components?
They are just puppets promoting junk food, makeup, bad quality clothes, etc. and they receive a kot of millions for selling their souls.
That wig seems to idolize a white image also
ОтветитьMy understanding of "quiet luxury" is investing in quality items that will last for years and usually have a more "classic" style. The items don't need to be expensive (though it will be more expensive than your average Target shirt), but they do need to be of a quality that will look good for years to come. My personal style and mentality means my clothes fit into this category but it is because I now have quality item I will own for the next 10yrs that I enjoy wearing, not because it is the "trendy" thing.
ОтветитьThis is beyond - taking quiet luxury and turn it into discussion about vacationing in former slave quarters - whaaaaat? Quiet luxury is defined as UNDERSTATED luxury- so buying items that are of natural fibers, classic lines, that are within a color palate that works well together. What’s “sad” is the attack of appropriate selection of clothes, accessories, that are timeless as well work well together. But then turning something that is sensible into a personal affront to yourself and your history. I wish I could find language strong enough to express the absurdities expressed here
ОтветитьCope and seethe.
ОтветитьKourtney and Scott were never married
ОтветитьI get this media’s “simplicity/old rich/quiet wealth/iykyk” style that’s popular but sometimes it seems like this movement is to ridicule the style/wealth of affluent black people. Media has always portrayed wealthy black rappers, athletes, artists etc with the loud rich kind of style, the styles are usually with monogrammed designer apparel and lots of jewelry when styled right it can actually look good. Most famous wealthy Black Americans weren’t born with silver spoon/old money and had to build their own wealth from scratch.
ОтветитьPoor analysis. Invalid correlations.
ОтветитьWhy on earth would that rich bristish guy marry Sophia Richie ? She is a previously failed marriage person, Would you pay top dollar for a used car ?
Ответитьold money, because you'd never spend that if you actually worked for it! :)
ОтветитьI have pieces that I’ve been collecting from my grandmother and mother (without their permission 😉) for years. I incorporate them into my wardrobe and they fit beautifully. I guess I’ve been doing “quiet luxury” before it became popular. ❤
ОтветитьIt’s all about the quality, no loud colors, looking well put together.
ОтветитьOld money aesthetic and quiet luxury are fashion trends, they are not what "the rich" wear...
ОтветитьMy view of what quiet luxury should be for an average person = if you’re going to spend the money to get a luxury brand item, try to get something that is “timeless” and made of incredibly good materials. Something that you will wear constantly for years, but will stay good during that time. Example, I have owned many puffer coats over the past 10 years (Zara, Uniglo, United Colors of Benneton, etc). Last year I bought an $800 puffer coat from the Burberry outlet. This is the best puffer coat I’ve ever owned - works in all weather, yet is more sleek and stylish than my previous ones, and incredibly well made. Based on my education in garment construction and textile knowledge, I genuinely think this puffer coat will last me at least 20 years. I need no more puffer coats so to me it was worth the money. Additionally, it is from Burberry but you would never know unless you look at the label (no check print in the lining). I like this because people won’t make assumptions about whether I have money. Would I buy a $500 t-shirt? No. Never. Did I buy $300 pretty plain black slide shoes from Alexander McQueen for summer because they gave me the best feet support I’ve ever felt in sandals? Yes. Have I worn any other shoe this summer? Not really. Get things that will last, that you’ll use constantly, and that you don’t have to wash often. Get wools and cashmeres and silks - luxury prices for polyester is horrible. Plan to spend the money so you won’t have to again for 30 years. Don’t do this excessively. That’s how I think you should do quiet luxury if you actually want to participate in it - don’t follow an aesthetic, buy timeless pieces in your style that you love and that are high quality enough to last for decades.
ОтветитьLol, this is so Great Gatsby! East egg vs west egg!
ОтветитьMy most recent bf was born into wealth and he has inherited his father's business. He prides himself on having "quiet wealth" and dresses exactly like you've described. I've always teased him about it. Fashion eventually played a small part in our break-up because he preferred me to dress the same. He never forced me to and would take me out regardless of what I was wearing, but he did tell me several times that he thought it made him look bad. I value comfort and practicality over style because I work with animals as a job and for hobbies. Fashion might literally get me killed with some of these animals. So I often wore jeans and t shirts.
To be fair, on our very first date we went to the fair and I warned him I was dressing for comfort, not my usual office attire he was used to seeing me in from photos. (We met online.) When he first saw me, he said, "oh, you REALLY dress down..." But he still asked me on a second date. We were together for two years and then had a mutual break-up to follow different life paths. We're still friends and talk frequently.
