What are some things you learned during your first 50K?? We have a ton of great comments below already!
ОтветитьThankyou for the great video ! I just ran my first Marathon about a month ago and just signed up for a 60k mountain ultra. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous but im sure all will be well. I will use your advice to get me through.
ОтветитьYou didn't link the training plan.. shame on you
ОтветитьGood advice, mate. On 50ks I take a salt capsule minimum of once and hour. Never cramped up since I strayed doing that. Also a good idea to have an electrolyte drink the night before the race and a couple of hours before the start.
Music is such a boost, so I do the same at about 30k, but I also make sure to get some caffeine and sugar just before that too so I get the mental and physical boost. Usually works an absolute treat.
100% correct about carrying food. I carry a little in case I don’t want to stop at an aid station or I get injured and have to wait it out. The rest I scoop up quick into a ziplock bag I have with me and eat on the next hills.
Thanks for the video.
Potassium is the electrolyte responsible for relaxing the muscle after a contraction.
ОтветитьThanks for sharing your experience. It helps me a lot as rookie
ОтветитьI did same thing for photo and hurt my hamstring and had to DNF a 100 miler. I’m running a 50K next week so NO STYLING for the lens! 😂
ОтветитьThanks.
ОтветитьI’m doing my first ultra in September - 100k. Did first marathon 2 weekends ago. Started running last year aged 45. Loving it!
ОтветитьGot my first 50k coming up next Sunday. Was going to rely on aid station sodium sources until this vid. I'll try the music-carrot too. Thanks for the vid.
ОтветитьWhat’s the best way to take sodium?
ОтветитьIt is hard to resist a heel click but I will try my best
ОтветитьThanks for this advice man!
ОтветитьStart slower
Eat sooner
Drink more
Dont spend time at aid stations
Be rested fully race day. Even if thats 2 weeks of rest prior
only training for a marathon but still super helpful !!
ОтветитьThanks bro just signed up for my first 50k up a mountain 😂
ОтветитьCheere for the advice my bro. I'm hoping to hit my first 50 early next year through the hills of New Zealand. 2200 meters of elevation. A little nervous. I hope everyone reading this smashes their goals next year
ОтветитьThanks brotha. Im running a 100 mile race in april. Los Angeles, California
ОтветитьKnow your course and elevation. That’s the one thing I learn every ultra.
ОтветитьVery good tips, currently training for my first 50k, thanks for the advice!
Ответитьi think im gonna do a 50 km next year, i ran a full marathon in 3 hours 29 minutes on sunday
ОтветитьThis is a great video man, thanks!
ОтветитьThanks bro! First 50k In 1 week
ОтветитьThanks for the info I'm 18 going to do my first 50 k ultra in 3 weeks and haven't trained at all💀 wish me luck
BTW it's the ranch 50k in Escondido CA
Thank you, your advice will be used next week.
ОтветитьI’m doing a solo road 50K in march what road shoe would you recommend I’m debating getting the brooks gts 22 or should I go elsewhere?
ОтветитьStopping every hour to stretch out my legs is a MUST for me. My thighs cramp up and it really helps keep them loose.
ОтветитьGood advice. I ran a 50K trail this past weekend and I wasn't able to complete it because of I missed the cutoff. I was so upset cause I wasn't tired and wanted to finish it. But I remembered stepping on a branch that made me get off my rhythm and cramped up hard that I collapsed. LOL This is solid advice for my next run, thank you and be safe out on your runs.
ОтветитьYour sudden movement tip is super interesting and might have been one of my big problems during first 50k. I had trained on sidewalks and dirt trails, but got pretty screwed on the uneven rock part of the course (Moab slick rock ground). Overpacking also boned me. Kept watching dudes that were doing the 50 miler blow past me with a tiny water bottle as gear. Meanwhile I was moving about as well as a lame mule. Live and learn. Great tips!
ОтветитьThanks for the great info! I’m doing a 50k in 2023 for my 50th. This is all good to know.
ОтветитьAwesome video man! Have my first ultra(40 miler) coming in a month
ОтветитьGreat video! #2 explains a lot of what went wrong in my first mountain ultra a few weeks ago, thanks. And I'm good about salt intake, but I now carry a little pack of salt tabs for other runners that I come across who are cramping. Just subscribed, looking forward to following along on your journey to 50 miles.
Ответитьcheers Chad. I'm also a cramper so I found your tips really useful. Gonna start training for my first 50k. The Tarawera ultra here in NZ. what sort of magnesium or salt do you find works best for you during the run. Cheers. Rosco
ОтветитьGood deal!!
ОтветитьThis is super useful thank you, im currently trying to document my first ultra on my channel and this video was quality. Particularly about the salt and using music as a carrot! Thanks mate, subscribed an liked!
