Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette. The 70's were ICONIC for country, and I don't even really like country that much. Mostly because the new stuff is so phony. "Stadium country" as Bo Burnham puts it. The 90's had some okay stuff. I remember my parents listening to Reba MacIntyre and Garth Brooks, but the start of fakey pop country was already brewing with Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks and it's been downhill ever since. The 90's was the decade authentic country died.

The Dixie Chicks changed their name to The Chicks- cause the word Dixie is offensive but apparently Chicks is not.

90's country is not what I consider country. For me traditional country is all there is. I would say the newest artists that I consider country would be Dwight Yoakum and Chris Stapleton. Some of my favorites are Conway Twitty, Merl Haggard, Charlie Pride, Jim Reeves, Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius....😊

This is actually pretty tough. You could even apply this to rock. But in the end, I think you get the same winner for each. 70's is slightly better overall than the 90s. But they're better than everyone else combined.

Also, you really should of brought up Charlie Daniels. That guy wrote many of the other country stars hits. But the Devil Went Down to Ga is to this day the best written song of all time, in all genres, to me. And I'm not even that big of a country fan.

70’s hands down. There is absolutely no comparison. This isn’t just my opinion but my daughter’s generation also. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, Hank Williams Jr., George Jones, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire, Charlie Pride, Barbara Mandrill, Ronnie Milsap, Johnny Paycheck, Tom T. Hall, John Denver, Glynn Campbell.

The 70’s was the greatest generation in music history. Not just the country genre.

The greatest country & western song ever recorded came out in 1959-El Paso by Marty Robbins. The ‘80’s gave us the greatest duet ever recorded-Islands In The Stream. The head bangers have their ‘Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll’ but those southern good ol’ boys have ‘Sex, Beer & Country & Western’
