With the dynamite string launcher I like to pull with a lot of strength then let go right before it hits the end so it still reaches from the force, but then it just retracts. Warning, it can come back and hit your hand, and it can be a bit painful on the fingers.

I use quaddrive red launcher and i win battles against my friend who uses a db launcher.
