It’s the Serena serve that’s the difference. It’s unplayable. Both ladies returns are fab. Would have been fun to see a 3rd set.

Serena’s much better technically overall - her serve is much better, her forehand technique is better, her net play is better and her movement is much better. The only areas I’d possibly give it to Maria is backhand maybe, but it’s close - both have very strong backhands but Maria has a bit more reach on hers and she’s naturally a lefty as well so I’d probably say Maria. I will say though, I do think Maria edged Serena on mental toughness overall (despite their head to head) Serena has admitted she’s lost matches she shouldn’t have due to her getting angry or upset and Maria’s like a damn Drill Sergeant 😂 and she continues giving 100% no matter what the scoreline is. 🙌🏻
