Zoom H4n Introduction - How to plug in a 3.5mm mic such as a Neewer Lavalier Mic

How does this work if your 20 feet from the speaker for a hotel shoot of a speaker with a Rode wireless receiver on camera. How does the h4 help as a recorder.?

My el-cheapo lav came with a TRRS 4.5mm converter of some sort, which had no effect, bizarrely, it was just a barrel thing. But the 90-degree crazy cable it also came with was in fact a proper TRS converter as well as an angled cable strain, and that gave joy. (Cheap mic since it's a cheap build which may get damaged or not even used/experimental .) Your video was the clue I needed, thanks.

The issue remained on my side. But I figured out that I needed a 3 pole jack adapter. My lapel mic (3,5mm) has 3 black bands on its jack and the adapter has only 2 black bands. Resolved the issue

When I plug the mic in I only get one signal on one side the mic is a TRS.

can I use h4n as like cellphone's microphone?

Since you can barely see the screen, for anyone who came here trying to get their 3.5mm jack on the back to work (likely with a small unpowered lav or similar): Go to menu > Input > Set "Plug-In" option to On.

can I plug contact and coil mics directly into the input jack on the back there? Or do I need an impedance adaptor to plug into XLR at bottom?

Here it is, 8 years later, and your video is still helping folks out. For me it was the settings to enable the rear jack to work. ,

When I have my lapel? mic plugged in, the recorder isn't hearing anything no matter if it's set to plug-in or not. When I unplug the lapel mic, it does pick up sound. Could it be the lapel mic is the problem?

Thank you very much! I Bought the Zoom H4N and 2 cheap Lavaliers inkl. Transmitter-Station (50 € each) - But in this case I can just connect one Mic with the recorder itself. This is a good alternative, thanks!

Thanks. Giving power to the port is needed, but with Rode SmartLav+, I needed also to attach the TRRS to TRS adapter, otherwise it didn't work.

Hi, is the rode lavalier for smartphone also working with Zoom? Or is needed an adapter or something? I need to record an interview using that with the zoom and i'm not sure it's going to work...
