The more you put down the better your monthly payment will be. And gee if I put down 20 percent that’s and equity payment. How much does a new car depreciate 20 percent. I am not upside down with my new car. To many people want a low down payment and low monthly payments and all that does is make a person locked into a car for five years or more because they are underwater on the car.

How do you validate the buy rate? F&I Manager or Director isn't likely going to share that information.

I was nice but I was super blunt with my last car I brought.

Guy said whats your monthly budget and I said this is the cash deposit I’m putting down, the car costs X amount. Will the number change if my budgets different then? Because that doesn’t sound right. And he said oh no the number will be the same and I said ok cool. Let me know what the price comes to monthly with this deposit and we can work from there.

I ended up getting £1500 off the car and got gap insurance through the dealer but with them making up the difference between their gap and my favoured quote online and they added an extra £100 onto the trade in value of the car I offered up.

Ended up saving about £30-£35 per month

But also in the UK a lot of dealers can’t change their APR rate because they pre agree a rate and are fixed to that annoyingly

Years ago, I took my laptop into the salesman’s office with the screen such that he couldn’t see it. He was really uncomfortable and I think he was on the verge of asking me to leave. Hilarious!

The third time someone asks me what I want my monthly payment to be after I've politely told them "stop" is when I get up and walk out. Sir I came to you to buy a car, not to apply for credit. Sell me a car and I'll worry about how to pay for it.

The dealers motto for customers “ it’s not the deal they get, it’s the deal they THINK they get “……be ready to walk.

I just got a call from my dealership and they want to buy my leased car. I wonder if because of the state of the economy I should trade it in for a hybrid but I can't afford to pay more than what I am paying now.

I got so fed up with car salesman after buying 3 new cars in 2 years that I turned into a straight up prick by the 4th. EVERY SINGLE ONE would try to slip in paint protection or some other BS. And they would argue that 3 to 5 times before they would finally give up. I would tell them what my monthly budge was...but I would make it impossibly low. I would have them invested about 3 days of time on me only to have to try to squeeze the dollar amount down and hunt for another 2 or 3 days to find the lowest interest rate. Then after it was all over, I would take that offer and shoot it out to half a dozen other dealerships saying I would buy from them if they can beat that deal. The last dealership hated my damn guts, because after it was all over, they had spent probably a solid week fielding calls to me and banks and then I made them deliver the damn thing 3 hours away for free. Now i make it a point to be the most difficult customer to deal with...but polite. I was always polite.....except after about the 3rd time they try to sell me paint protection... And I always leave a five star review if they make it work.

Instead of acting like a moron with 'I don't know, I'm not sure, maybe this, maybe not' the way to do it is to go through their process with trade-in and dealer financing. Then pull out the trade in and financing at the last minute. If the Dealer wants to revise the otd price upward he is in a more awkward position at that point. You are now negotiating using his (previously discounted) numbers. If you act like an indecisive moron you will be treated as such.

Why would you agree to write out a credit sheet? You don’t want them putting a hard inquiry on your credit report when they run your credit, when paying for cash.

This video is what convinced me to visit our credit union before walking onto a car lot. Ends up the dealer we purchased our car from couldn't touch the interest rate offered by our credit union. They were a full percentage point above it.

I’ve been doing this since I bought the first car at the dealer. This is just common sense. To be fair I don’t ever buy car based on a monthly payment, I buy a car based on the actual price of the car less any rebate, incentive and any discount that is available. Then I calculate monthly payments after all that to see how much I have to pay after.

You guys are full of crap lol. The job of the car sales agent is to obtain the information the customer can provide so as to present that to the salesanager who can produce the figures regarding how the customer wanted to purchase their new vehicle. Withholding information and waiting until the end to introduce the trade only makes the process take longer and is a tremendous waste of time that gets management mad at their sales agent for not obtaining that information sooner so as to present all the figures expediently for both the customer and the dealership. Stop trying to make the most idiotic car buyers the world has ever known who deliberately go out of their way to make themselves their own problem lol. All the data must be implemented either way with regard to the structuring of the deal so dragging your feet around is only wasting your own time instead of working with the agent who is simply trying to accommodate you and what you are doing.

Car dealers are specifically trained to perform a cashectomy on the customers.
How much are you willing to spend? Nothing. I want to spend nothing and leave here with a brand new car. How close can you guys come to that?
How much do you earn a year? No, I have to disclose that information to the IRS by law. I won't willingly share that with you. I make more than you do. Leave it at that.
What will you be trading in? If you can't sell me a car at a good price, I won't be trading in. Convince me to buy something and we'll talk trade-in.

A good/great salesperson will have no issue giving you an out the door price. I give clients the out the door price when they just ask me for the "price", because I need to know if they're on too much car as soon as is possible. This way, I can switch them to a vehicle that they can afford, or are willing to pay for sooner than later.

Its not about what question to ask or answer its the credit score system is what gets you more options. Dont bother bullshiting to sales agent when you knew you got shit credit score. Aint gonna work that way anymore. If you got beat by high interest on new car then beat tf of your new car by doing side gigs job to earn back some money and pay it off fast. Not having a car in this country thats like entering to homeless status..lol

is it normal for them to check your credit before looking at the sale numbers? I asked about the car and they wanted to do a credit application right of the bat. I havent even test drove the car yet, i then walked out.

Pretty solid advise, thank you. I usually do most of my homework upfront. And you have to look at the market, like it is a lot different today than even just a couple of years ago. That said, I know what my credit is and what interest I can get. I look at what the cars are selling for in a 1000 mile range. Then if they ask what my monthly payment is, I tell them, and ask them to beat it. My interest is X.xx, I want to pay XXXX for the vehicle, monthly payment is XXX.xx. But you have to do all your homework up front.

The questions are good, but i find that the dealer will waste hours of my time trying to con me. My last purchase was thru Carvana , i know the negatives. They gave me a very high price on my trade and i paid high for the Honda i bought from them, but compared to what was out there at the time 1 1/2 years ago, i think i did well. They didn't even account for the hail damage i had on my trade.
