What are the settings of this helicopter? I am trying to recreate.

Come back to reality Scrapman. People think a quarter of an hour is 25 minutes, can't name 3 countries, don't know what 3x3x3 is, or how many dimes are in a dollar. They don't even learn how to spell before they've graduated high school. Unfortunately, most people weren't learning about Newton's laws in elementary school. We're lucky if a majority of them were taught how to tie their own shoes by 6th grade.

The wind resistance from the wood counter rotating could potentially allow this to work

Boundary layer effect and who knows what Magnus effect would do 😂
You was spinning at a pretty impressive speed in the opposite direction😂😂😅
Don't think I want to ride it though 🤣

Basically the biggest reason DaVinci's Corkscrew Copter was never used is because it had been built at one point only to find out it had to spin so ridiculously fast to achieve and maintain takeoff and flight that it was just too impractical even if hooked up to a motor.

what you could do is attach those bars to the shaft that attaches to the corkscrew and push the bar instead and add a lil spinny thing on the bottom so it so it doesnt spin bottom

Just put wings that rotate and have them spiral up the pole. Then put big flap out the back attached to the base to slow the rotation. Then maybe make a smaller screw using wing tips to go forward. Maybe it the screw in the front could be angled you could actually steer and counter the last of the spin... especially if you can get it moving forward a bit.

The animated screw turns in the opposite direction from the model. I looked at the original drawing and it's not clear which direction was intended.

I don't know if it is of interest but there are videos of these blade designs being used on quadcopters for a university's build competition.

Aparently they were much more stable and quiet relative to conventional blades or something?

Fun Fact: There are drones being developed using the aerial screw type of prop. It is show to be comparable in stability and power to propellers of a similar threshold with the possibility of being a lot quieter and more thrust at lower RPMs, along with some other advantages - though its major drawback is its weight of construction.

The fun bit is that it generates lift in an entirely different way to most conventional methods, so a whole lot isn't known about it at this time and they haven't yet determined an ideal shape for them.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the model in the pic at the beginning is wrong? If they were walking and pushing the bars around, it would be spinning the right way, but holding the bars and pushing the flywheel under them it would be driving into the ground.

Hey Scrapman , cant you just add something to increase drag on the bottom platform ? If it cant counter spin then more energy should go to the spinning corkscrew thingy right ? like you were saying , it can liftoff cause the drag of the floor keeps the threadmill part from spinning and the rotation goes to the screw ... well what if we just , take the floor to the skies , i mean , take the drag to the skies ... like, just add some vertical tail wings like if it was a rocket to the bottom part ,

Like to let Scrap man see this comment

Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci put Faults intentional in his mechanical drawings ? That was the purpose of protecting his inventions from plagiary. Best example is the "Leonardo's fighting vehicle" that is inspired by a turtle's shell

It’s crazy to think they didn’t have tons of the fundamentals of physics when inventing things. Making a helicopter before we knew gravity is 9.8 m/s squared is kind of crazy. He was a genius, and his fundamental ideas helped structure what we know today.

But his ideas for flight are fundamentally flawed in ways that we wouldn’t understand for another few hundred years. This doesn’t discredit him, we just need to put it into reference. Einstein was a genius to us, but in 200 years we may find that some of his theories are flawed in ways we cannot even fathom at the moment.
