AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Review & GPU Benchmarks: Gaming, Thermals, Power, & Noise

It's November 2023, and now, with Chinese embargoes and AI trending into the stratosphere, the 4090 is selling for $2,000 and more. That much cash can buy a viable used car, folks. Yesterday I ordered a new 7900XTX for under $900, less than half the going price of the big dog from Nvidia and roughly 3/4 the price of a 4080. Sure, $900 is still a lot for a video card, but I paid more than that for my 2080Ti, a card that's 1/2 as fast as the XTX on average. I don't play any ray tracing games, and if any RT titles ever interest me I can simply play with RT off and keep on rasterizing. The 7900XTX is probably the last graphics card I'll buy for the next four or five years.

I'm back a year later and still wondering why Nvidia is still charging $200 more for the 4080 over the 7900xtx; especially when the xtx slightly out performs it. I'm curious if they will lower prices w/ the new Super cards coming Q1 2024. Either way their marketing is silly, its no wonder why ppl weren't buying 4000 series much. I guess they don't care since they are making $$$ off AI. Hopefully the sanctions force their hand to reduce prices.

Hi guys, I've been watching your GPU and CPU videos as I've been hoping to build a rig this black friday. I find them really useful for getting info for thermals and framerates. Earlier today (11.11) I saw the price on this card drop down to less than $500 on Amazon and I immediately got on it thinking it was an early Black Friday Deal. I log back in a while later to check if the payment went through and saw that the order was cancelled without my input so now I'm thinking someone just messed up a number or something. Is that a normal thing that happens and consumers can't do anything about it? I was so stoked to snag a relatively high end card for my build for a good price and now I'm just depressed that they sneakily cancelled the orders. 😢

Hello Steve. I have a question about the power supply for rx 7900 xtx. will the corsair RM750X power supply be enough for my PC with this card? I know that 850 w is recommended.but I want to know if it is necessary to replacing 750 for 850w. Thx

The coil whine on my hellhound 7900xtx went away after a couple days.

So it seems even 850w is not able to handle the random power spike by this card

The question for me is, get a 4080 Aero and be able to use my Corsair 850w PSU, or get a 7900 XTX Taichi White (which might be a space heater in my room), and then also have to buy a beast of a PSU to support it? In this case, the 4080 is the less expensive option by hundreds of dollars. What about video rendering performance for video editing in DaVinci Resolve for instance? I never hear about that in these reviews, always just games.

I've got a Saphire 7900xt pulse coming in 2 days. Going from a 3060 to that will be a noticable jump from what I've seen. I'm giving my 3060 to a buddy of mine here in town.

Saving up $ for my first gaming PC for Christmas, will be going for the RX 7900XTX with intel i9 24 core. Hopefully good upgrade from my PS5 and XBSX. I just want starfield > 30fps but also play Spiderman 2 once it's out on PC.

@GamersNexus - what do you think about re-reviewing the 7900XTX ? as an owner I've been wildly disappointed at how bad the card was for the first six months and especially the first 3 months of ownership, where despite identical 100hz monitors & an RM850X the system stability had initially been measured in barely hours, and the idle power-usage was always over 100watts. VR performance has also been terrible for the first 8months of ownership.

The most recent drivers seem to have finally fixed most of these things, and also improved performance fairly drastically in a lot of areas - with your platform I'd love to see if you agree about the AMD gpu's being almost a different-level of product 8 months into the cycle, primarily because of drivers reaching maturity, where the disappointment was very real early on.

I just bought a RTX 3060 and it plays ratchet and clank rifts apart on a LG QHD 165hz 27 inch monitor, and the game runs fast and smooth!

I was wondering what that strange noise was coming from my new 6950 xt. It’s coil whine! It’s strange at what points it happens too. I wonder if it has something to do with the GPU support I just put in. Maybe I cranked it up too high and it’s tweaking the card a bit.

I had a Msi 2070super, was looking to buy the 4070ti for €‎1000,-. After doing some research I found out that the 7900XTX costs the same (in NL) so I went with that, thanks for the video, now I'm justified that I made this choice.

Will my cpu be the bottleneck for the rx 7900 xtx?
I'm thinking between rx 7900xtx, rx 7900 xt and rx 6950xt.
What graphics would you recommend for me with this processor, without bottlenecks at 1440p?

Are GN going to make a "Revisited" benchmarking video for 7900 xtx with updated AMD drivers, to see if they've improved like Intel for the ARC gpus?

My XFX 7900 XTX hits 3Ghz at 55c on air with 1.1Tbs+ on its 24GB VRAM. Idk if it's luck or just a decent cooler, but i ❤️ it 😊

really hate how 900 USD is mid range, GTX 1070 and 1080 were such good cards that its incredible, and the price was so good, now 4070 is such a hard to buy card as the price is so high but the performance is not there for me, i would love to get RT 6800 XT but AMD makes so few cards that where im at it costs 730 USD, so i went with asus rtx 3070 tuf gaming for 330 USD used and hope it lasts me till GPU prices come way down, remember DDR5 RAM in 2022 and now in mid 2023, 3-4 times cheaper
