It's hard not to love an insanely hot, broody man covered in tats with a tragic as hell past. But, I feel like he gets his ass handed to him a lot because Oda made his devil fruit power OP, then realized he had to nerf the guy so he wasn't OP, and handled the nerf badly. Doflamingo is neutral evil (with out morals but not completely chaotic / able to care for others)
A better example of chaotic evil is Enel (with out morals / no regard for others sees him self as a god)

I agree what you said that Law is completely and utterly free when he finally takes down Doflamingo. After achieving his goal to repay the debt of Corazon, he is now moving forward and decide to study the real history to know what's the meaning of 'D'. He is free to live his own life and pursue his dream now.

idk if anyone still reading these, but i always thought of rocinante continuously saying doflamingo was born evil as a way to justify to himself only showing up 20 years later to betray his brother, especially when law shows up as literally doffy 2.0, with the difference being that hes a D, and promptly discovers that an enraged traumatised kid is not, in fact, the antichrist. maybe doflamingo was worse, but i think people are severely downplaying law's nastiness that shone even through his medical background AND corazon's love like guarding a faculty that experimented on kidnapped children and developed chemical weapons of mass destruction, siccing kaido on dressrosa making the whole nation into collateral without care and god knows what else. man's no angel

My take on the drastic difference before and after the timeskip is that meeting Luffy and then saving him along with the insanity that was the Marineford war left such a lasting impression on Law that it caused him to slow down and think things over rather than charging in alongside his fellow supernova.

This is such a good analysis of Law's character, and by extension Doflamingo's, and I laughed so hard at that part in the beginning. Anytime you ask how Doffy is, just assume he's mad.
No but this perfectly encapsulated why Law is my favourite character in the series and Doffy my favourite villain, they're so well written and the way their trauma is so evident in everything they do is amazing! Poor Law just needs a hug!

I absolutely LOVED watching this video. It also got me thinking about a lot of things, one of them being another difference between Law and Doffy.

Doffy had to suffer for his dad's mistake and he didn't forgive him for it- hence why he shot him. That was freedom for HIMSELF.

Law didn't have a family member make mistakes, Cora didn't cause his suffering. He healed it.

There was no initial betrayal of trust from Cora. Cora and Doffy's dad betrayed their trust by making a decision without thinking of how it would affect them. Cora thought of Law before anything for himself.

Sure people can argue that Cora and Doffy's dad loved them, sure. But he was kind of selfish dragging his family somewhere without really thinking about how it would affect them. Of course Doffy's angry.

Cora dragged Law around- like his father did him and Doffy- but it wasn't for himself, it was for Law. A way to help Law.

I honestly think that both of them were affected by nurture rather than nature. No child is born evil, and although this is mentioning a completely different character, wasn't that the theme around Ace? That no child was born evil, because of their fathers sins?

This is just my opinions! I'd love to hear what you think back!

What I noticed is that he still has Doffy in his brain, and correspondingly he has a hat in the style of the Doflamingo family. Symbolically, it's even more complicated and dramatic because it's clearly worn in honor of Corazon. Black and white, he has seen the best and the worst in humanity and boy oh boy that weight is crushing. Also, Shambles or Chambers? Was Shambles specifically that one time everyone got Freaky Friday-ed or Kokoro Connect-ed? Are all of the movement maneuvers Chambers?

The Fact That Law Still Calls Corazon "Cora-San" As An Adult Is The Cutest Thing Ever

Great video! Law is one of my favorite characters and as sad as it is to say a theory I have to why he's so popular (aside from obvious reasons) is that pretty much anyone who grew up in an environment where love was conditional and where they were expected to be "useful" to receive any kind of affection can relate even if Law's story is a very extreme case of that.

I also really appreciate post-Dressrosa Law simply for the fact that people generally don't change overnight. Even after his conversation with Sengoku and everything that happened he still very clearly struggles with accepting love and interacting with people who are truly motivated by kindness. He does things that are obviously out of kindness or concern for others (his worry about the people of Zou, telling the samurai the Polar Tang wasn't their garrison and then still taking them to Onigashima and having planned to do so the whole time, etc) but is uncomfortable with framing it that way. He loosens up considerably but is still tense around others (which I also think is partly due to him just being naturally introverted but constantly surrounded by loud, intense people but that's another topic). He is also clearly a lot more comfortable with the Straw Hats than anyone else aside from his own crew despite refusing to admit they're friends - evidenced by him being comfortable enough with Robin to talk to her about his true name and the ponegliffs, and his picking on Zoro on Zou (only in the anime, I know, but I don't fully discount that stuff). It's just going to take him a while to really come around, if he ever does, because this attitude is so ingrained in him.

I think it's also worth noting when talking about his relationship with Luffy and the Straw Hats and refusal to acknowledge any kind of friendship, that for Law anyone who has ever loved him and especially who he's truly love back is dead. This has gotten kind of long though so anyway, again, great video! Very worried for this man in the future. 😭

Remember that corazon attacked the kids on the donquixote crew as awell, and law still loved him and dedicated his life to him

Tbh I adore Law, I adore seeing him suffer in and endearing way, I always cackle when this poor autistic coded man makes his big ass plans just for his ADHD king snd hudband (Luffy) to fuck it all

Yes I ship them specially since Luffy kinda manheld this man through all dessrosa and kinda handled all his bae wishes by defeating Doflamingo despite consequences

Anyways, Law is a great character, I love his seiyuu, he has one of the best powers and his way of using them are peak... Also he got hotter and HOTTER the more time passed


But seriously, he has one of my favorite moments that made me have an OOF moment and that is when Sengoku yells at him for rationalizing Rocinante's love and sacrifice trying to make it make sense. "Dont search for a reason for someone to love you!" You can see clearly that even if Law thought he was far from Doflamingo the reality is that his meritocracy and way of thinking actually hunted him, he did believed he wasnt lovable without use, despite the love Rocinante showed, he didn't have the age nor time to work on that ideology to a point he understood NOTHING and was willing and ready (so ready and certain he admits he didnt expect it otherwise) to die to fulfill the will of his benefactor... But Rocinante wouldn't have wanted nor aprove this idea of dying by defeating Doflamingo; he just wanted Law to be happy and alive far away from Doflamingo

Bit of a mistake here. Dofflaming isn't Chaotic evil, he is lawful evil, Dofflamingo believes there should be order, but he thinks he should be at the top of it. A chaotic evil character would be someone like Kaido who want complete anarchy and war. Dofflaming wants to be at the top of the pecking order by any mean necessary. That's why he is evil, but he is definitively either lawful or neutral evil

I'd never thought much about the misery p..rn Law gets put through before, but god freaking damnit, now I can't unsee it.
Like, plenty of One Piece characters get put through the wringer and come out bloody and beaten, but whenever it happens to Law, it does have a certain, eeerh, questionable flavor to it. And the man gets beaten up a lot, so, yeah...
When Luffy gets beaten up, I'm all "Get back up Luffy! You can do it! Aaargh! Go go go!"
But when Law gets beaten up, I'm more "Leave him alone! Someone give this hot bloody mess a blanket! Don't touch the poor little Mew Mew!"
Hahaha, poor Law, he tries so hard to act tough, but he just exudes damsel vibes.

I do not ship Robin and Law. I will riot it if she ends up with Law in the epilogue. I don't give a single fucking shit if it makes her happy! I will do anything to see her happy except accepting that fucking ship! Reee!
