Complete misunderstanding of secure attachment, mixed up with @just don’t be a helicopter parent@, examples of challenges that came from not understanding children feelings as opposed to encouragement of independence- she’s just still idealising her parents not having properly looked into the impact of her childhood.
ОтветитьHey there! When it comes to parenting styles, finding the right balance is key. Be loving and supportive, but don't forget to set boundaries too. Your parenting approach can have a lasting impact on your child's life. Show them empathy, communicate openly, and be a positive role model. It'll help shape their confidence, resilience, and overall happiness as they grow up. 👌🏻
ОтветитьI don't feel like I heard a Ted talk. I feel like I heard an uninformed person parroting sound bites the Boomer generation has been whining about for decades, participation trophies and all. She speaks in absolutes, primarily from her own experience. This talk could use a dose of humility, empathy, and sound academic research. I think 10 hypothetical parents could independently follow all of her "tips" without making a single mistake and have 10 completely different results. Either her parents were extremely lucky and she happened to be very responsive to their style, or they were very smart and saw her areas of need and areas of lack of need and now she is taking her success as the "only" way. A form of survivors bias with a hint of confirmation bias. There's no accounting for socioeconomic variance. She almost seems to be desperately trying to rationalize her success and reconcile that with the way her parents treated her. In any case, this felt more like it belonged on PragerU than Tedx. It is basically an opinion piece.
ОтветитьI find this video extremely condescending. Sociologists don’t know why students are not performing very well. not every parent does their children’s applications some kids are calm because they’ve given up and they have depression not because he had helicopter parents. There’s a lot of holes in her argument. I like what she’s putting down or trying to, but at the same time no one knows anyone else in there is a not a very well understood reason as to why kids in college are feeling so much depression, anxiety so on and so forth.
ОтветитьBrilliant Ted Talk!🙌
ОтветитьExcellent!
Ответить“I’m 18 and an expert on parenting bc of my singular experience being raised”
ОтветитьShe talked like an 8 year olds presentation
ОтветитьHow many kids does this chick have? Garrantee, zero. Thought this was meant to be on [parenting styles.. not just a general assumption that everyone but her own parents has the same parenting style....... I accept some of her points but also wonder if she could have benefitted a little more emotional support as a young child....
ОтветитьBy focusing on your upbringing alone you're overlooking things like genetics, poverty, geographic location, lack of family support, lack of healthcare, lack of available child development resources, lack of mental health resources, etc.
Child development is multifaceted.
We all have had our challenges.
ОтветитьI thought this talk was excellent and I took a lot from it. But that's because I fell in love with the 'idea' of the perfect parenting. Reading the negative comments was actually a huge relief. My parents were not perfect. I am not a perfect mother but I am a good one. Cheers to all the parents doing their best in whatever circumstances you are in, whoever you are :) Variety is what makes the world great.
ОтветитьMy channel has some parenting questions answered.... Check my channel and subscribe to learn more about parenting.
ОтветитьParenting is NOT about controling the kids.
Ответить"Scout"? Seriously?
ОтветитьShe was very knowledgeable! This is what I will share with my clients in our responsible parenting lesson❤️
ОтветитьSo, because I'm bad at smalltalk I'll never find a job? lol
ОтветитьI’m so confused at all of the negative comments, I thought this was great
ОтветитьIs she a parent?
ОтветитьGreat to hear from someone who knows everything about a subject they know nothing about. She went to “running through the fields” university.
ОтветитьI can provide you with a link to a female therapist who is on her 3rd marriage due to having your style. I feel sorry for you.
ОтветитьWhat everyone seems to be afraid to mention is that children don’t have to stay with their parents from the time that they can get up and crawl. Anyone will take a child into their arms and care for them because their irresistible and no one can give up the opportunity to care for a child. They should go to only the ones that love the most. Even if a child was one years old and crawled right out their parents front door there would be someone to take care of them. There would be no caveats or restrictions other than the ones that capitalists place upon a child rearing and the current fascitisation we are seeing.
ОтветитьOMG Im so unique, Im not like the other silly millenials and their participation trophies.
ОтветитьThis was massively patronising and insufferable. Totally emblematic of the right wing's misbelief that only they have character.
ОтветитьI played have danced since I could walk, played soccer, field hockey, basketball, played the flute, and cheer..... but I still love to read books 😭 so this ted talk is my least fav
ОтветитьThis talk is ❤
ОтветитьBut employers do reward people for doing a task that was expected of them. This reward is you get paid or even sometimes get a raise. Lol
I came here for facts but instead I got this young ladies life experiences and opinions.
I’m doing a tedx talk late June on the “same topic” any suggestions?
ОтветитьWhite people parenting is the worst
ОтветитьCome check me out
Ответитьthis literally reads like a high school narrative essay lmao
ОтветитьMy parents were quite similar, and I thank them a lot for doing it.
ОтветитьI'm glad I wasn't the only who thought that this was a bad speech covering a major topic.
ОтветитьPerfectly said. Such a prequosios young lady. Your parents must be so proud.
ОтветитьI can't relate to any of this cos my parents barely even interacted with me. :\ I feel like she's discussing a pretty upper-class upbringing between her and her peers. Although I think she's right that micromanaging kids is detrimental.
ОтветитьThis is probably the worst ted talk ever.
Ответитьvery good!
ОтветитьJust her bragging about how good her parents are. doesn't mention Baumrind's parenting styles (authoritative | autocratic | permissive) or Macroby and Martin's 4th style of Uninvolved parenting. interesting for hobby listening but not acedemically.
Ответитьok, Be proud of you so much pride of herself
ОтветитьSound like you have limited exposure to various demographics. Some kids need more guidance than others. For some, sports are the best way to develop and stay out of trouble. I encourage you to learn about groups other than boarding school kids and parents.
