I share your love of Chiang Mai and Costa Rica, and was recently blown away by Sri Lanka. The people, the landscape, the history, everything. I was on an organised tour, so I wasn’t really doing it on the cheap, but the restaurants we went to were very reasonable, and after the tour I spent a week in a luxury hotel with a rooftop infinity pool for the price of a two-star hotel in France. A buffet breakfast was included, and I ate so much that I didn’t need anything for the rest of the day, except maybe a few nuts and a beer in the evening.
Ответитьnever This is probably the best "travel blog" I ever watched. Having traveled the world over many decades myself - I can only admire how Nik can summarize facts and figures in such an entertaining but right-on-the-nail manner.
I am familiar with all the places he lists - and yes - he is right on target.
Based on the personal stories I heard from friends over the many years there is one thing I would not recommend to travelers in a foreign country. And that is "renting cars, scooters, boats, and any other vehicles that are to be operated under the laws of that country. Once you cause an accident or are just involved in an accident - you are no longer a tourist but a "milk cow' for the local authorities. Nothing touristy about that when you are delivered to an ER. You don't know the local laws, you have no legal representation unless you can afford it - and many times, the US Embassy in that country is your last resort to get out of the country - not to mention the money you leave on the table.
Was it easy to communicate with people in Croatia?
ОтветитьWhat time of year did you go to Thailand?
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьHow many days did it take to do the USA road trip?
ОтветитьMy boat ride to the phi phi islands got canceled because of the lightning. I was soooo bummed out. Still am lol
ОтветитьIs there a white sand beach with crystal blue water in Costa Rica? I didn’t see one and did see a lot of bugs. After Hawaii it fell short, but if there was an awesome beach might reconsider.
Dominican Republic is cheap! And nice beaches. Not safe, not great service, but budget friendly if you don’t mind that
Wonderful information.
I love Thailand.❤
Is there a budget suggestion for Scotland?
ОтветитьThere are many places where two people can travel for 100 USD a day, i am now in Nha Trang Vietnam and i was surprised of how nice Da Lat was, the city of eternal spring at 5000 feet above sea level in the tropics, it is a heaven. They call Da Lat the City of eternal Spring the temperarure is always beween 70 and 75 degrees, so no temperature regulation in the home in necessary, and i was there for 11 days. I was also in Hoi An, and recommend recommend. Thailand is wery nice but when it comes to budget, then it's in the middle range in the world. Just check numbeo index for that.
I am going to Nepal Next and i have been there before, and it is the cheapest place in the world in my mind, and the Nature is stunning, its the biggest moutains in the world, and the climate is lovingly, the temperature in Pokhara is springlike even in January if yo are in Pokhara and trekking season is Martch to May or September to November. so also recomended. I spend normally avout 20 USD a day chilling at lakeside and having a scooter to travel around with, so 100???!!! 100 is like living five star life with a butler there and paying drinks on your friends on top of that, so nope you will never use 1000 USD in Nepal unless you are getting drunk all the time.
I am finally going to be able to do some traveling. I definitely want to be budget friendly, with the occasional splurge. What a wonderful channel, just subscribed!❤❤🎉
ОтветитьHave you been to Vietnam?
ОтветитьI am shocked Vietnam is not on your list. I hope you get to do a video on Vietnam in the future. It is VERY afforable with many wonderful sights.
ОтветитьI am in love with Poland ❤ Been to Krakow, Gdansk, Warsaw and Poznan. Will visit many more, definitely. Love Poland in summer and winter. And the people are so nice and cool!
Ответитьlolol Greece wasn’t cheap! Croatia definitely wasn’t cheap! Just came back from both in late 2023. Even outside of the tourist traps.. awesome places, but not cheap.
ОтветитьThere is no way you can stay in Croatia with that daily budget, even inland. Apartment or hotel will be 100 euros at least, food in restaurant for two people 50 euros at least, not even mentioning transport.
Source: I have lived in Croatia all my life.
Still, worth visiting!
This was excellent! Will probably visit most of these places. I was wondering, what cameras do you use on your travels??
ОтветитьCosta Rica is nice but Mexico is cheaper and there’s a lot of South America and central countries that are far cheaper
ОтветитьI agree wholeheartedly with your advice here. We’ve visited all locations you mentioned
Except for Chiang Mai, but hope to get back to Thailand for that purpose!
I live in Phnom Penh Cambodia. Siem Reap's international airport has more flights than PP. If you have to go down from Siem Reap to the depressing but world famous tourist sights in Phnom Penh. Fly into Siem Reap and fly out of Phnom Penh. This saves you a day of traveling back to where you've already been. I've never met a tourist who did this & no one explains this to them. Also, 1,000,000 Khmer riel is worth 244USD, so an old US $1000 dollar note is what you need to get millions in change and very few people will change 100usd notes these days. You want nothing bigger than 20's & when you withdraw money out of an auto teller, change the currency in the auto teller to Khmer riel. It will give brand new 50,000 riel notes (12.50usd each) and give you good Asian currency conversion rates. I've never had one of those notes rejected by anyone here.
ОтветитьI think Sri Lanka is cheaper and more things to do !!
ОтветитьI've been curious about Thailand for a while. Did you find there was a huge language barrier there?
Ответитьwow so incredibly eurocentric even with Cambodia and Philippines, its just the classic backpackers trail, I Maynor have been to as many countries as you ( I am at 58 and counting) but my list is alot more off the beaten path, try Pakistan, Oman, Ghana, Tanzania, Chile, and the list goes on and on
ОтветитьThis is a really useful rundown and description of countries. Thanks.
ОтветитьGoing to Slovenia and Croatia in April.
ОтветитьGood video, but poland is not that cheap anymore since it's filled with Ukranians
ОтветитьI wish I could afford to travel, but with airfares being so pricey, and the AUD being basically worthless these days, the best I can do is leave my driveway.
ОтветитьI wood also recommend Albania
ОтветитьGreat tips and video ! Cheers Chris and Jim!
ОтветитьTravel channel about beautiful locations…80% of the videos of the guys face. :/
ОтветитьTerrible misleading information. Maybe you don't know more countries to compare or something but...
Costa Rica, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece aren't "insanely cheap destinations". Going to a lost in the mountains town outside the beaten path just to scratch a country from your map is not conscious travel, it's just a show off for people with less resources.
If you want some cheap destinations: Portugal, Morocco, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Laos, Vietnam...
Very nice video
ОтветитьFrom Australia, you should try Malaysia, in particular, Penang. The food is cheap and amazing
ОтветитьEvery restaurant in CR was more expensive than most places in the US. Travelers spend most their money on accommodations and restaurants.
ОтветитьGreat video!!! Thanks.
ОтветитьCroatia is amazing. Love the 7 night snorkeling cruise from Dubrovnik to Split 😊
ОтветитьMy girlfriend and I did a 5 week tour of Europe for $25 US per day. In 1986.
But at my age now it’s just too much work to stay within a $100 a day budget.
On your road trip at the end, there is another National Park just across the boarder in Colorado called Mesa Verde. It wouldn't be that big of a detour and it's definitely worth it. It's right outside Cortez Colorado (which is really close to your route).
There is a hike up to point look out which is pretty cool. And the cliff dwellings are really cool. Plus the drive around the park is absolutely top notch for scenery. I wouldn't budget any more than 2 days though.
Also, if you take that exact route, you will go through St. George utah. If youre a fan of matts off road recovery, you can stop in and say hi. Its a pretty cool yt channel and not AT ALL what you would expect from a towing company.
I spent a week in Chang mai it rained hard every day all I could do was grab the umbrella and go to the restaurant and back to the hotel.
ОтветитьEslovenia no really cheap. No sure what you have talking about
ОтветитьDon’t forget Romania! A wonderful country with amazing landscape, food and people
ОтветитьPoland 🇵🇱 is next up on Putin’s list to attack. As for Slovenia 🇸🇮, my AirBnb roommates say they have been told that they must start stockpiling canned food and to be aware that men must be ready for war in 5 years. I’m in Costa Rica right now but it’s not as cheap as you’ve reported. I’m in San Jose and yes you can survive for under 100$ per day but you probably won’t go to the beach unless you sleep in your car. Staying in a hotel with friends isn’t part of the $100 per day reality.
ОтветитьCosta Rica is NOT a steal. We couldn’t believe how expensive it has gotten. Not going back.
ОтветитьI'll NEVER understand why anyone would want to visit LA or San Diego. Not much to see for tourists.
ОтветитьWe are flying back to the states in two days. We just did five months in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan. I cannot recommended Cambodia and Vietnam enough. We loved those two countries so much.
ОтветитьThanks for the informations ❤️ kisses from Greece 🇬🇷😎
ОтветитьI know this list is a joke when Costa Rica and Greece are on it
ОтветитьHow wonderful. I to met Song Kou in Cambodia, the driver. A wonderful person and have remained in contact with him since.
ОтветитьFrom Canada. Spent four months in Chiang Mai, Thailand… .and the surrounding mountains. Don’t forget to go up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. If you don’t go up there….they say you’ve never really been to Chiang Mai.
On a second trip, I spent two months in Siem Reap, Cambodia… and the surrounding area. You really need at least the three day pass to visit Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the other major ancient temples. One day is simply too rushed and hurried and you won’t see much more than just Angkor Wat itself.
I followed that two months with a Giant Ibis bus trip across country to Poipet, passing into Thailand again, and spending four days in wonderful Bangkok. In my late 60’s.
I’m 72 now, can still carry my small backpack….carry on size, with a cross body sling. I never check any luggage. Take care. 🙏🏼 ☸️ ✈️ 🌴 🌴 🌴 😃
