The BEST Standalone VR Headset? VIVE Focus 3 Review

Most videos I've seen about this seem to be trying to sell this headset. I was going to get this one but if it's not really for gaming and more for business then, I guess I'll stick with my quest 2

I'm thinking of getting this (I like the high resolution).

Questions I have:

Is Vive going to be releasing a new model any time soon (like a Focus 4 or something)?

Could I just plug it into my laptop with USB-C to keep it charged?

How is it playing standard (non-VR) games via virtual desktop?

I put my personal value way beyond $600 so to me it’s worth at least that much more for a headset that promise to not share my personal data such as eye tracking response analytics against individuals etc….

Does this headset work with Immersed? I Saw a video that showed the library in the headset and i saw Immersed there

HTC is the best for me

Everbody is saying this is to expensive, but its a similar price to a samsung phone with the same chipset

How long do games take to load please? I only want to replace my current Vive because the headset is too heavy and games take too long to load with my computer

Kinda odd that they'd provide a nice USB-C splitter for the controllers but the battery pack has an old barrel-style connector. Hopefully the headset can be charged via the USB-C port directly. Otherwise, it would be kind of a pain to play with auxiliary power whether it be battery pack or tethered to the mains. Looks nice though.

I see a whole lot of 'not even for business' comments here, meanwhile everything feels perfect for my business' use case while trying to ramp back up during covid restrictions. Professional use cases aren't 'just the same as home, but more/bigger', ffs.

A memory card slot near your eyes is a little odd. I hereby brand it Ocular Memories. That's a feature.

looks like a oculus prototype just like the one Lucky was trying to make back 8 yrs ago.

hopefully a quest 3 pro (or even a quest 2 comfort edition) will move the front heavy battery to the rear of a headstrap. the battery in the front of the quest 2 adds a lot of weight. would be nice to see another halo strap design (like the rift s) with the battery completely taken out of the quest 2 headset (and moved to rear). would also be nice to see vive make a more affordable headset around $700 (could even use oculus lens design with single screen and snapping lenses, better stereo overlap anyway)

Any reason the vertical FOV is less than other headsets. Not very good for this price.

OOF... Not being able to charge and play is a huge turn off. I love my Quest 2, and just leave it plugged in all the time. Having to use a power bank or having a separate cable charging the battery while playing is a mess.

Least favorite part gotta be the pricepoint. Apart from that it seems like a very viable piece of hardware.

Looking at all the features this has compared to the Quest and the difference in the price point. I wonder if Oculus would get into a smart phone situation where once new models come out, there are three different versions with different features based on price. It’ll let Oculus stay in their affordable range and start flagship competing. I’d rather take options than have one model missing features.

Great video, the fact that they sent you out a copy could mean we have a consumer version coming soon especially when you watch Eric for Presidents video interview with the Vive guy.he definitely hinted at something coming in the future.

The vpn and cooling are the most interesting on that headset

VR arcades are not allowed to offer every game, usually they need special contracts etc. maybe these games are allowed to be played at VR arcades, that would explain why a business version sells games and why there are only so few?

Why is the Vive Focus 3 not sold for regular players at a price comparable to Oculus Quest 2 ? .. .  . :/
For wireless streaming SteamVR Focus 3 would be even better than Quest 2.

I hope the Quest 3 is designed like that.
