This is why I distinctly use two different PCs for any kind of remote work. Lmao.

Wanna track your COMPANY’S system, cool. Wanna track mine? No. Including wanting your dumb company software on my “personal device”, I will put that software on a dummy drive that will sit idle all day every day.

Have you noticed your screen flicker randomly during the day? That’s monitoring software. Open up command prompt and run netstat look for observeit and other known tracking company names, you’ll see it. Look at the amount of data going from your system to the employer, did you send gigs of data today? Probably not, outside of patches and updates but that traffic would be coming to you not going out. Takes a good amount of data to take screenshots/video throughout the day. I found it in my laptop though it’s not talked about and they hide the process name (totally forgot to hide the network process 😂) and my understanding is that it’s for security and given what I do that makes sense. That being said I haven’t talked to long term employees to find out for sure as keeping a secret like this is virtually impossible. It hasn’t affected me and I don’t work directly for the company so I can leave tomorrow and continue to get paid working for another client. My main employer doesn’t monitor me, they make sure I get things done and if I’ve got 4 hours left in a day it’s good to do some training and such but that’s not even mandatory. Hitting hours goes to bonus so you slack off it costs you money and if you work hard you get rewarded. How hard is that?

This application is pure evil. I can’t wait until I can retire, or start my own gig. If employers are using this, they hate their employees.

I would say this would only be cool if it was opt-in, you could see your stuff the same way the managers can, you get alerts with a copy of any screenshot they look at, you have to approve mic/cam per session, etc... Outside of like if there was a jump box that was only for touching critical data you remoted into that was a shared resource and it was for audit, would also want to be able to "safely" encrypt a password/password hash that the keylogger would auto nuke from the logs on that box.

There are a few mostly non-invacive use cases I could see this being useful for, at least from an IT/Budgeting standpoint, if it only collected application use as well as if the window has focus or not for deciding what software was really worth renewing, maybe a whole department has office but only 2 people use it and everyone else uses gsuite, can drop seats on that. That kinda thing.

If they don't trust you as an employee, it is because the employer cannot be trusted. It's called projection.
This software is an invention is mother of necessity bs technology to help businesses create a plausibly deniable high turnover rate. Any company who uses this is obviously concerned about treadmill burnout because they don't care about their employees in the first place.

How to prevent it:
1. Ask employer DIRECT question about monitoring. If them evade answer, consider another place to get your job.
2. If the answer is "yes", leave.
3. If the answer is "no", notify employer (or HR) that you'll ANYWAY find out. Then look for their reaction and take corresponding actions.
4. If you working on corporate computer, run tron12 and various antiviral scanners (such as KIS, DrWeb etc). MOST monitoring software have high rate malware detection, due to suspicious patterns (DLL injections, grabbing screen/keyboard, etc). If running diagnostics in offline environment, FULL access to BIOS/UEFI of this computer and other zero-ring execution techniques are "prohibited by company policy", leave.
If you're working on own computer, DO NOT install anything you're invited to, even VPN. If employer wants your computer as member of their network, let them send you credentials and NAT-accessible server (with white/static IP) for VPN access, e. g. L2TP. ALL modern systems (Windows, Mint, Ubuntu, Manjaro, RHEL etc) have built-in VPN clients. Remember, any "VPN" software may be tampered and bundled with such spying functionality.
5. On regular base, fire up proxy+logging software on EXTERNAL, CLEAN computer which acts as direct network bridge between your computer (no matter corporate or your own). This computer SHOULD have two network cards, one connected to your examined computer, and one to router/internet. You can use either ipfire as whole linux environment (ipfire is router/firewall software, built in format of operating system) or wireshark on windows/linux. Both may do logging. If it's feel difficult for you to audit gathered logs, just compare them to ones gathered from "normal", "clean" purity control computer, which you can setup within 30 minutes with cheap Ebay 775-sock computer for $30, or with virtualization software such as virtualbox on Windows or qemu on linux.

Employee Monitoring App is absolutely disgusting. It's trojanware that is put as "monitoring" software. Companies need to stop using such invasive software. What does it matter as long as the employee is behaving properly and that they are doing their job? Why do their screen or moving their mouse has to signify that work is being done? As long as the employee is getting worked done to help my company I could care less what they are doing on the side as long as it's not sharing any trade secrets or insulting my clients.

Work enough with these boss to know they will find faults of you, never of themselves, anything right is their credit, and if anything goes wrong even if its a result of their call, its still your fault, never theirs.

My Dad started programming in machine language, then assembly, then Cobol working for the navy

A new commander took over that branch. He started posting "IDIOT of the week" in memos and on the office board.

The criteria was how many coding errors each developer had

The result was that the most productive programmers had the most errors. The guy who sat there scratching their blls and putting out a fraction of the code were being rewarded.

Finally someone got to him and explained what an idiot he and his measuring system was.

Because the persons doing the monitoring are certified by the pope himself to be 100% uncorruptible. No way they could abuse this type of control especially when there is no checks or balances put in places to make sure it isnt abused. That would never happen. Nah.

Employees were monitored at my old job but I didn’t care. I was underpaid and they knew it.
I get paid much better at my new job so I only use the browser for business related activities. I have my laptop camera taped over and I use another USB camera that I plug in for meetings. I don’t use usb sticks because my new company is very security minded. Downloading software is forbidden and I’m okay with that as long as they understand it hurts productivity. I’m careful about emails and the IT department loves to send fake phish emails to see if you’re paying attention. One time the company sent all employees an important email but nobody clicked on it because they thought it was a phish email.
