I don't think fetching a nonbasic tapped would be fair, because the nonbasic will almost always then be a card that enters tapped.
ОтветитьDid I miss the scry land section?
ОтветитьGreat video, thanks! Building the mana base for a deck is my favorite part. That's normal right?
ОтветитьIn my Piru, the Volatile deck i was able to cast a turn 3 Phyrexian Vidicator and drop a nemesis mask on it for turn 4 attack. But that is highly anecdotal. Cards with lots of the same pips probably shouldnt go into 3 color decks. It was my Chromatic Orrery that really put in work.
ОтветитьI think you could have mentioned some spells which interact well with lands.
Corp rotation a strip mine, Bojuka Bog ect. at instant spell is very powerfull.
Fact or fiction can be used to take both and basic and a snow covered land so you are sure to get a basic land. Nature's Lore, Three wishes can be used to get duals with basic land type.
I would have like if you have done an analyse of CMC and its influence on how many lands to run. Would have be nice if you where able to crack some numbers on the issue.
On the land quantities this video is helpful but on the qualities, this guide basically says: you have to spend 500 dollars on magic land singles in order to be able to play properly. It is sad that this format supposedly has to speed up so people reconsider a 20 dollar land as cheap. Isn't that exactly the opposite of what commander was supposed to be
ОтветитьI went down to 34 lands even in a deck with mostly 3 cmc cards. After having to mulligan 3-4 times in some 1v1's I just bumped things up to 36
ОтветитьAccording to this math most of the games I play on mtgo are statistical impossibility I run 38 to 43 lands and often mulligan 4 to 5 times with less then 3 lands.
ОтветитьLooking at this, and looking at my decks.. seeing most lands i own are tapped lands.. but what do you do :) lands are just way to expensive
ОтветитьJosh dude let the other guy talk. Holy fuck.

ОтветитьNothing worse than top decking a land late game.
35 lands. No more no less
I really like the bounce lands and feel they are under-rated for sure. They do have a couple of advantages that weren't really mentioned, specifically they are great at providing an extra land drop when they don't hit a utility land, and since you can tap the land you are going to bounce, it is about the same downside as a regular tap land. Then you can replay the land you bounced without being down mana since they make 2 mana. They also can just bounce themselves in landfall decks to ensure you get all your landfall triggers.
Ответитьi think there is a lot of interaction with any tutor land thats getting overlooked. i like any fetch land because they filter your deck. its not a common situation, but shuffling your library can be beneficial as well. sensei’s divining top is way better with fetch lands.
Ответить100 minutes of telling you to simply have more money.
ОтветитьFilter Lands are amazing in 2-3 color Decks. Pathway Lands are best in 2 color Decks, where they are almost always better than just a basic.
ОтветитьI feel like I needed this video, glad I was was able to go back through the archive
ОтветитьDad always said- “buy land”
Changed my life.
Lol most of my decks run about 35 lands. They typically include 3 mana rocks minimum, sol ring, Arcane signet, and a mana fixer like Dimir Signet, chromatic lantern, or utility rock like Thought Vessel.
Valakut awakening always ends up being card 101 in all my decks when I should just cut a mountain for it
ОтветитьI have a Cleansing Wildfire in my Jund dragon deck as a red mana fix. Turns out a lot of people run bounce lands or land auras, and this dirt cheap cantrip is now my saltiest card.
Ответитьdude the water droplets on the window are enormous!
ОтветитьSo...I actually only have 29 lands because I have 11 really great straight up ramp cards AND about 6 cards that grant me convoke as well as HAVE convoke for my token generator deck. So far I actually am finding I almost have TOO much ramp because of how good my ramp cards are and how low CMC my deck is in general...most of my cards are 3 CMC or maybe 4 CMC. I have about 30 creature cards in my deck too and my Commander is Errant and Giada (and I also have other cards that let me play the top card of my library in addition to my commander) and thus I'm able to generate pretty good card draw/card advantage in order to get spells out and then make sure I draw lands or other ramp cards when needed. I may bump that back up to like 33 at some point if I find in multiple games that I'm struggling for mana but currently, it seems like I have almost too much ramp for my Mana curve! Which isn't really a problem but seeing as my deck is all about pillowforting and then aggression, means I may actually need more cards that can multitask as ramp or card draw AND aggression. Firemane Commando is the EPITOME of that strategy for me though. Both pillowforting, aggressive, AND card draw.
ОтветитьReal alpha males use only 36 basic lands and overfill on mana fix artifacts/man's rocks to make it work

Or random dual lands in the chaff box at the lgs
EVery 5 seconds he breathes in sharply more then normal, i hope hes okay
ОтветитьI run a 5 color deck an Play 3/4 colored mana spells of same color. With my type of ramp, it's easier when you have options. The majority are also tap lands, so when that happens I make the most of it by running Domain cards or Domain support by looking for spells that look for basic land TYPE.
Ответитьtainted lands are amazing. If you play a black deck, fill it with tainted lands
ОтветитьYo, trying to build a dove color mana base, in a budget mind you, how many tap lands is reasonable to play?
ОтветитьOnly one problem. Reprint the reserved list!!! Hear hear!!!
ОтветитьSo funny that I was so wrong about the bounce lands! I never play the ones I own and thought them worthless 😂 glad to have a man idea of what to do with them now!
ОтветитьBefore watching this, I had 39 basic mountains in my mono red deck
ОтветитьCounting Myriad Landscape as a ramp spell instead of a land, genius.
ОтветитьI was playing a game in the recent months where I was strip mined and wasteland'ed 2 turns in a row on a 4 color deck. I just scooped and left. They destroyed triomed and shocklands while everyone else played other important things, but no, they decide to strip and waste my lands only.
EDIT: I was only playing triomes and slow lands because that's what my opener after Mulligans gave me.
30 lands? I feel attacked, Giada and I are offended. I have land tax and Archaeomancer's Map. Lax tax is like getting an opening hand with 6+3 cards, instead of 7. But yeah, I agree don't have 30 lands if your commander isn't a mana dork and you don't have a permanent ramp
ОтветитьI learned this the hard way recently when building an All Will be One theme deck lead by the new Atraxa and used the new precon and added blue without working on the landbase, only throwing in basics and a few duel lands i had, and in a four color deck it was bad and i had no color fixing
ОтветитьIn my life gain deck I like running Reliquary Tower with Venser’s Journal. Guaranteed life gain triggers.
ОтветитьIntuitively I thought that each mulligan would result in a 45% chance to have 3-4 lands, like a single coin flip has each time a 50% chance. But when calculating the probability of the series of mulligans backwards: how likely is that all of your mulligans will fail, it becomes clear that it is harder and harder to see only failures when you add more mulligans. Thanks for making me think about it.
ОтветитьTemple of the false gods btw is just a much worse ancient tomb.
ОтветитьFor me there's 4 factors that play into how many lands I run. Deck colors, (mono, dual, three, etc, does it include green) average cmc, amount of non land/artifact ramp, and how much card draw is in the deck.
Ответить32-37 lands is way too low. They even have the statistics that in my mind prove it. I agree 3-4 lands is ideal in a starting hand but I don’t want to rely on mulligans to give myself only a 70% chance. 38-42 lands is much closer to ideal. If I’m consistently getting 3-4 lands in my first hand then I’d much rather use a mulligan to get the other cards that I need to win.
ОтветитьHey they mentioned me
ОтветитьI am a novice player and am so happy this exists. Thank you!
ОтветитьWhy shouldn't MTG have 2 decks: 1 deck only for lands, and 1 deck for the rest of the cards?
ОтветитьI run all 10 duels, 5 shocks, 5 fetch, 3 lands similar to command tower, and 10 basics in my 5 color sliver deck. Seems to work out for a 5 color deck. Kind of expensive though.
ОтветитьNot that I think gates are playable but they aren't the worst. invasion dual lands are just gates without the gate type.
ОтветитьI'm gonna listen to all this good advice, and then proceed to ignore it in order to make my five-color "Gaslight, GATEkeep, Girlboss" deck where it's entirely based around playing Gate lands
