Hi ! A "Pitch Diameter " seems to be a medium point measure between Major and Minor diameter but could you please tell me what is the purpose of this concept ? Thanks for your excellent video and Regards !

So is inch thread the same as Standard.
What confused me is when I see Metric, I think the head of the bolt, but the video seems to be talking about the thread.
So if there is Metric Thread, is there also Standard, is that Inch thread?

The use of the highly reflective surface features in the thread type models is VERY distracting from a learning standpoint.

I am a junior in high school with no interest in engineering in this sense. I have 2 upcoming projects and failing grades. So logically instead of working on those I decide to learn about thread types.

y do u call the whitworth the first "proper thread"?? inch n metric in my opinion r a little more valuable because they require less processes and r simpler to make but still have standards, n also provide slightly more bearing area

Everything seems simple at a glance ... until someone who knows explains it. Then you know you know about nothing at all of a subject

I have no dealings with these items, so I have no idea what prompted me to watch this vid- but I'm glad I did. The graphics are superb, and the content was an education: I blush to admit I thought threaded things were much of a muchness. Now I know better. The complexity of their screwy anatomy has made my brain hurt (but in a good way) and henceforth I'll accord these humble fixings the respect they deserve. Thanks.

Thank you for the very informative video. I used to wonder why there was no single standard pitch and TPI for screws (AKA bolts, nuts augers, etc.). This puts it in a simple visual way for beginners to understand. I recall (many, many, years ago) in algebra wondering why I had to do equations involving more than 360 degrees...

Liked and subscribed. When I was a kid, I got my A&P and set to restoring warbirds. Fasteners were a much bigger world than I’d have even thought to ask about. I picked up a AN hardware and fasteners book at Oshkosh, read the ink right out of it.

It would have good to mention BA threads
which have an angle of 47.5 degrees -
whereas Whitworth have 55.0 degrees.

Interesting stuff. Now if someone could explain how bolt head sizes are set...I mean, if I buy a 10mm bolt from my local engineering supplier it comes with a 16mm head. If it's on a European built machine it's most likely 17mm, but if it's Japanese, then it's going to be 14mm.

Thread anatomy--usually starts with a question or statement of observation, then someone else offers a different viewpoint, another will nay-say that, then the name calling starts, original poster never scene or heard from again, referrals to the rules of the forum and what is and isn't allowed, swearing, parentage dispersions, backpedaling, threats, more names, then the thread is closed by moderators. Followed by a side thread where someone wants to know what happened to that such and such thread. 😇

Acme is the name of the corporation that produces the contraptions in the Roadrunner cartoons but the name goes back further than that. It's also the name John Fogerty wrote on the truss rod cover of his Rickenbacker 325 that he used in Creedance Clearwater Revival, he still uses it today.

I am curious about another thread type. It has a fine-pitch but a very large diameter. Generally, you'll find them at the tip of DSLR camera lenses. For screwing filters and other attachments. What is the type?

There is no "Inch" it's UN, which just uses imperial measurements - same as the many flavours of Whitworth form threads.

Of course there are so many more, but I think pipe threads, like BSP, deserved a mention.
