The game's story revolves around a doomsday cult called the Project at Eden's Gate, led by Joseph Seed, also known as "The Father." You'll play as a sheriff's deputy who becomes involved in the resistance against the cult. Along the way, you'll meet a cast of characters who will aid you in your fight against the cult, including Nick Rye, Mary May Fairgrave, and Pastor Jerome Jeffries.

As the player, you'll have the freedom to customize your character and choose your own path through the game's open world. You'll have access to a variety of weapons and vehicles to aid you in your missions, and you'll be able to recruit companions to fight alongside you.
