Good review. The only thing else you could have mentioned was the difference in leg and foot comfort. I understand the GS feels less “Sporty” and more comfortable for the legs over long distances.

Mon anglais n'est certes pas parfait. Mais quelle idée quand on n'a pas le bon accent ou la bonne prononciation de faire un test dans une langue étrangère. 😝

Very helpful discussion of the differences especially when riding with a passenger . Not covered in many other videos on the rt vs gs

Excellent comparison. I'm in process of trading my 2018. 1200GS Rallye for a 2021 RT1250. Can't wait to get it. Better weather protection was the key factor for change. Cheers

2022 RT is my next bike. I did 20,000 km on my ‘19 KTM 1290 SD GT, and although it was a fantastic bike, tech, performance, and comfort, the overall comfort and engine heat (at temps above 25 C) was not ideal. The RT won’t be as fast, but far more comfortable and better heat managed (cylinders low and air deflectors), and it’s a damn nice overall package. Love it!

I went for the 1250RS as it is much lighter than the RT and lower than the GS.

Thank you for the great review. I don’t think I’ve seen another review that mentions the rear sub frame cross sectional differences. I often wondered why the weight limit was 10kg on the GS/GSA. I keep swaying between these 2 (GS Adv and RT). Part of me wants the long suspension travel of the GS Adv and the drop protection of the GS Adv. The other part wants the tech + comfort of the RT and included luggage. I’m going to be commuting 3 days a week on a 320km/200mile round trip to London. I can see the weather protection will help massively since I’ll be riding all year round, except for snow days (we get very few of those). My wife came on the back of the GS Adv and loved it. She’s very slim and around 1.7m so seat size isn’t an issue, but the top case on the RT, apart from more make up and shoe room, looks more comfortable!

The attraction of the GS Adv is the soft road (I’ve coined a new word!) ability. There are many roads (I’m discovering, here in the UK that are broken tracks) which lead to very scenic areas. Additionally, our roads in the UK are disgraceful. I’ve already had to fork out over £1.5k for a new wheel and tyre on my Merc due to the lack of investment in infrastructure in the UK. On a bike, a pothole can be fatal. I do read the road far ahead, but at night, that becomes irrelevant. Anyway, after your review, the RT is slightly ahead. I’m buying in November when the newly announced energy cap goes to £3.5k per year and the BMW dealers are desperate.
