Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7" 12G overview. Amazing camera monitor and recorder!

A few people have mentioned this, and they appear to be correct. At the time I made this video, even while testing, I assumed that the battery was being charged but it isn't, despite what was mentioned in this video. I appreciate that this was pointed out, and I am pinning this comment for others to reference.

Anyone know if you can set the unit to trigger from start stop flags over SDI and then play recorded clips out over SDI?

I have several old 90s sd broadcast cameras. Can the blackmagic monitor take standard definition sdi signal and record it full hd? Or i have to upscale it in post?

What a bout quality and phantom power of the xlr audio inputs?

Sony still refuses, so no BRAW with e.g. A7S3. But ProRes422 10 bit is not bad either.

I connected my 6k pro to my new Video Assist 7" 12G but can't see 4k on the video assist (only 1080p). How do i view it in 4k?

Thanks for the video, two questions.

1) how did you get the histogram to show up on the dock next to the record button.

2) in my audio settings I can only see options for xlr line and mic, but no option to switch to video. Am I missing something or do I need an upgrade? It’s no idea to have to run xlr every time I want record with it.

With à Canon 1dx Mark 3, will it be able to record 4k60p in prores or any other codec ?
It will show the image on the moniteur or not cause it said it support 2160/60p but…?

Hi there! I’m having trouble getting the grid to display on my 3g 5” model.

Frame guides appear when I select them, but when I toggle the grid to “on” it will not appear. I see mention of a “grid menu” in the manual, but I do not see any page of the menu dedicated to the grid.

Any thoughts?

The SDI ports burn out extremely easily making the monitor worthless, and it cost almost as much as the monitor to have the port replaced. I had three of these and have now replaced them because the SDI port keeps going out. I can not recommend this monitor

Thanks for the video. I don´t get how to change the fps. Your Format: 1080p60 . Mine says 1080p50. But my camera is to 25fps

I though it is official video, excelent production! Regarding that you can power and charge at the same time I think you are not correct.

Did they address the “V30” Sandisk SD cards?

I’ve got an older Video Assist that refuses to take the V30s. I want to upgrade the Video Assists to these, but I’ll need to figure out another card option. Or just stick to the SSDs.

Can you use the HDMI OUT while recording ProRes? For example, can I connect my A7iv camera to Video Assist to record ProRes; but also use the HDMI out from the Video Assist as a video pass through to something like BMD ATEM switch for live streaming?

I am trying to record proxy files to the SD card in the monitor. But the metadata is burned into those files. Does anyone know how to get rid of that or stop it from happening?

Two questions:

1. Is there a way to display the legend for the false color on the side of the screen? (The bar with the IRE Levels and representing colors)

2. Can you also display the scopes on the bottom right corner, while examining the image? (The way it used to be possible on the URSA 4K and URSA Mini 4.6K screen)

I've got a question regards triggering record on the Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7" 12G monitor.
Recently I got a BlackMagic URSA Mini Pro 12K and looking to get a 7" monitor that possibly connects to my camera with option of trigger recording when pressing recording button on the camera itself or on the grip. In order to avoid double pressing Record on the camera and on the monitor individually.
Do you know if this monitor would sync with my BlackMagic URSA Mini Pro and would trigger recording on monitor if I start recording on the camera?
